Norrbotten Regiment, I 19, is one of Sweden's largest regiments. I 19 has the task of producing combat units for the Norrbotten Brigade (NmekB 19).

At I 19, the Norrbotten Armoured Battalion is responsible for the training and production of two armoured battalions and one mechanized battalion within NmekB 19. The units are specialized in offensive combat in sub-Arctic environments and use, among other things, the CV90 combat vehicle and the Strv 122 tank.

FLF FIN (Forward Land Forces Finland)

From 2026, NmekB 19 and 191. Pbat will primarily focus on operating a force within the multinational force for FLF Finland. As an employee at NmekB 19 and 191. Pbat, you can become part of a historic mission for the garrison, the Norrbotten Brigade, the Swedish Armed Forces, and Sweden within the framework of NATO.

The current planning direction is that the majority of the force contribution will be stationed in Boden and conduct operations and readiness within the framework of NmekB 19 and FLF FIN in both Sweden and Finland.

Job Responsibilities

An emergency nurse at the medical group, with specialist training focused on ambulance or anesthesia care, has the main responsibilities of attending to, evacuating, and caring for injured, sick, and exhausted patients prehospitally in field-adjacent environments.

Common tasks include:

  • Being medically responsible at the scene of injury and during transport (when a doctor is not present).
  • Being responsible for the medical group's medications and medical technical equipment, maintaining the equipment, and ensuring that medical supplies are always available on site.
  • Being able to perform daily level 1 care in the tiered system of care.
  • Preparing patients for handover to another unit.

In addition, the specialist nurse performs patient administrative work, both individually and in collaboration with others. The work consists of resource planning, patient documentation, use of reporting systems, and triage (sorting and prioritizing) of patients.

The daily work includes exercises to prepare for acute care situations. The role includes combat training so that the specialist nurse can protect and defend their own group and patients. As a specialist nurse, you must be able to undergo further education to develop your defense medical knowledge.

All work is conducted in accordance with the Health and Medical Services Act.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

  • Licensed nurse with a specialist degree in ambulance care or anesthesia care.
  • Clinical experience corresponding to approximately two years of professional work.
  • Prehospital experience.
  • Military training equivalent to completed Basic Soldier Training (GSU).
  • Category B driver's license.
  • Passed medical and physical tests according to the Swedish Armed Forces' requirement profile.

Personal Attributes

You should be able to work well in a group but also independently and under difficult physical and psychological conditions. You are a good problem solver with good analytical skills. You should also be willing to undergo further education, both theoretical and practical. Great importance is placed on personal suitability.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Military basic training equivalent to conscription.
  • Previous work within the Swedish Armed Forces.
  • Completed MTRB, MTRA, prehospital hypothermia, bloodletting, and acute transfusion.
  • Military driver's license LPTG (heavy truck).
  • Experience in prehospital work and/or disaster medicine.

Compensation for participation in FLF FIN for I 19

  • Compensation according to the Swedish Armed Forces collective agreement regarding working hours and business travel. This may change if a new agreement regarding overseas service is concluded between the parties.
  • The battalion combat group is on continuous operational readiness for 1–3 days during the readiness period. For operational readiness, you are compensated according to the collective agreement, currently 5,500 SEK/month.
  • The parts of the unit placed on readiness under NATO command are also subject to an additional time-limited salary supplement of 5,500 SEK/month during readiness. The total monthly compensation for those placed on readiness under NATO command thus amounts to 11,000 SEK in addition, on top of the base salary.
  • You are expected to complete approximately 35–40 Swedish Armed Forces days per six-month period, the majority of which will be conducted in Finland.

Employment Type: There is an opportunity for permanent employment, but also limited-term employment only during the readiness period. The Swedish Armed Forces apply a six-month probation period for you if you are not already employed by the agency.

Information about the position

During the first phase of FLF, there will be extensive competence assessment and training. During the later phase of FLF, there are opportunities to do other things while you are on readiness. This could be as support to our Healthcare School, our Defense Health, or clinical service with the region according to individual agreement.

I 19 is one of Sweden's largest regiments with operations in Boden, Kiruna, Tåme, and Grubbnäsudden/Lomben. The headquarters and command of the regiment are located in Boden. The regiment's most important task is to build combat units, and in the coming years, I 19 will gradually develop the new Norrbotten Brigade. By 2028, the regiment should be able to train, store, and mobilize the entire brigade, including the associated functional units; command, field works, air defense, and logistics.

Employment with us involves placement in a security class. Swedish citizenship is usually required. Security clearance with register check will be conducted before employment according to Chapter 3 of the Security Protection Act. Employment entails an obligation to be war-placed.
