Are you a confident and structured economist who thrives in a role where precision, collaboration, and business acumen meet research and societal benefit? We are now looking for a Project Economist at SLU in Uppsala. This role is ideal for you if you want to work closely with project managers, researchers, and administrative functions, contributing qualified economic support in an organization with many externally funded projects and international contacts.
The assignment starts on August 17th and is initially on a consultancy basis until the turn of the year. Thereafter, there are good opportunities for extension or direct employment for the right person. During the assignment, you will be employed as one of Poolia's valued consultants.
Selection and interviews are conducted on an ongoing basis, so we warmly welcome your application today.
About the roleAs a Project Economist, you will have a broad and responsible role where you primarily work with economic administration related to project reporting. You will, among other things, work with project calculations prior to applications, departmental budgets, reporting, economic follow-up, reconciliations, analyses, and year-end closing.
You will be part of a team consisting of two project economists and one overarching institutional economist. You will also collaborate closely with the personnel administrator and other functions within the institution.
The institution has a high proportion of external funding, which means there are many contracts and funders to manage. The work is carried out based on the regulations applicable to the university as a government agency, as well as the specific requirements and conditions of each funder.
Since the role involves significant contact with international projects, funders, and contractual documents, a large part of the work is conducted in English. Therefore, it is important that you are confident in reading, interpreting, and communicating in English in work-related contexts.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Supporting project managers with economic matters throughout the entire project process, from application to final reporting
- Reviewing and interpreting contract proposals from funders and suppliers
- Handling ongoing bookkeeping and invoice processing
- Managing expense reports and orders
- Providing general administrative support as needed
The administrative unit is led by the Prefect, to whom you will also report.
Who are you?To succeed in this role, you need to be structured, responsible, and have good prioritization skills. The workload can be high at times, for example in connection with application periods, budget work, and budget follow-ups.
You thrive in a role where you take individual responsibility while collaborating closely with others. You have an organizational mindset, are detail-oriented, and have the ability to meet deadlines. The role also requires that you are confident in prioritizing correctly and setting boundaries when multiple tasks are ongoing simultaneously.
We also look for someone who is unpretentious and has a flexible attitude towards tasks, as the role involves both qualified economic work and more routine administrative duties. You contribute where needed and find it easy to collaborate with different functions within the organization.
Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities.
QualificationsWe are looking for you who have:
- An academic degree with a focus on economics, or equivalent relevant competence
- A few years of experience in qualified economic work
- Experience working in economic systems and a good ability to familiarize yourself with new systems
- Good knowledge of the Office package, especially Excel and Outlook
- Very good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in both Swedish and English, as English is used extensively in the role
It is meritorious if you have:
- Previous experience with project reporting, preferably within universities, higher education, or other public sector operations
- Knowledge of economic administration related to EU-funded projects
- Experience with administrative systems such as Agresso/UBW, Proceedo, and Primula
We review applications on an ongoing basis, and the position may be filled before the final application deadline, so do not wait to submit your application!
