At the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology at the Sahlgrenska Academy, extensive research and teaching are conducted across broad knowledge areas - from molecule to human. The operations consist of five sections; pharmacology, physiology, health and rehabilitation, clinical neuroscience, and psychiatry and neurochemistry.

The Department of Neuroscience and Physiology is now seeking a researcher to be placed at the Section for Clinical Neuroscience.

The research group conducts research within advanced medical image analysis with a focus on brain imaging and brain tumors. The work involves the development and application of methods for image processing, data management, and statistical analysis of neuroimaging data in clinical research projects.

Responsibilities

The work involves technical and methodological support for ongoing research projects within neuroimaging. The tasks include, among other things:

  • Registration and normalization of MRI data to MNI-space.
  • Structuring and organizing image data according to BIDS standards.
  • Quality assurance and coordination of data processing and segmentation work.
  • Introduction and training of new employees in image analysis and data handling routines.
  • Coordination of student employees working with data processing and segmentation.
  • Participation in the development and maintenance of the research group's imaging pipelines.
  • Participation in research projects comparing different methods for mapping the brain's functional organization, including univariate analyses and SCCAN-based methods.

The work is carried out in close collaboration with researchers, doctoral students, and technical staff within the group.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • PhD in technical mathematics, medical image analysis, computer science, biomedical engineering, or another area that the employer considers equivalent.
  • Experience in registration and processing of MRI image data.
  • Experience in programming for scientific data analysis.
  • Good ability to express yourself in English, both orally and in writing.

Merits

  • Experience working with brain tumor data.
  • Experience working with BIDS standards and reproducible analysis workflows.
  • Experience with image analysis software packages such as ANTs, FSL, FreeSurfer, or equivalent software.
  • Experience in supervising or training students and research staff.
  • Experience in multivariate image analysis and lesion-symptom mapping methods.

Personal qualities

The applicant should be structured, self-initiating, and have good collaboration skills. Since the work involves coordinating several parallel activities, good organizational skills and a careful working method are required. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

Employment

The employment is a fixed-term appointment (intermittent appointment) for 7 months. You will work hours as needed with placement indefinitely at the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology. Start date: ASAP or as agreed.
