The Department of Anesthesiology, Surgery, and Intensive Care is located at Norrlands University Hospital in Umeå. Here, intensive care for children and adults, emergency and planned surgical care, anesthesia with associated postoperative care, and sterile technical operations are provided at the regional and county level in close collaboration with other departments in the county. The department is also responsible for air transport intensive care in the northern region. The mandate includes conducting research, development, and education.

IMA – Intermediate Care Unit

IMA – Intermediate Care Unit offers a varied, exciting, and developing work environment where care for patients with failing organ function is provided at a level that is difficult to achieve on a regular ward, as organ-supporting treatment may be needed or is required.

The unit has a closer staff presence and access to certain medical technical equipment that is not standard on regular wards. The unit is open 24/7, every day of the year. Patients are admitted from regular wards or the emergency department.

To facilitate the balance between work and leisure, you have the opportunity to join a working time model that allows for more time for recovery and lets you participate in the planning of work shifts.

Job Responsibilities

As a nurse with us, you contribute knowledge and commitment that make people feel safe.

At IMA, you will encounter patients requiring advanced nursing care and rehabilitation that cannot be provided on a regular ward. Since this is a completely new unit and much is new, working methods may need to change over time. Patients may come from all departments of the hospital, and as a nurse with us, you will have a varied daily routine and a broadening of your competencies.

It is important to us that everyone feels both stimulated and secure in their job. Therefore, we place great emphasis on in-depth orientation and mentorship. You are offered individual orientation for approximately 6 weeks. During this period, you will receive training together with your new colleagues in medical technology, medications, and working methods. There will be a coordinating nurse on the unit 7 days a week. As we care for patients of all categories, except those who have undergone thoracic surgery and children, our knowledge develops into a unique and broad knowledge base. You will collaborate closely with nursing assistants, physiotherapists, social workers, and doctors, forming a team around the patient and their relatives.

Since Norrlands University Hospital is a teaching hospital, student supervision is also included. Supervising students gives us the opportunity to keep ourselves updated regarding routines and treatments for our patients.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who are a registered nurse.

Experience from working in an intensive care unit is meritorious. You have the ability to prioritize, are flexible, and responsible. You have good collaboration skills and see the benefits of teamwork while also possessing the ability to work independently. You also actively contribute to a good work environment. We place great importance on personal qualities. Experience in emergency care is meritorious.

For those who already have an employment within Region Västerbotten, there may be an opportunity for rotational service.
