Nurse for Ear, Nose, Throat and Jaw Surgery Department, Region Västerbotten

Region Västerbotten works to ensure that good health and sustainable development strengthen each other. We take responsibility for equal welfare and for ensuring that research and innovation yield results.

The Ear, Nose, Throat and Jaw Surgery Department is part of Neuro, Head and Neck Centre (NHHC). We care for patients with diseases or injuries within the ear, nose, throat and jaw area.

Welcome to an important surgical specialty that cares for patients from both a medical and surgical perspective, offering both planned and emergency care, 24/7. We care for patients of mixed ages from 18 years and upwards on our ward, where you will encounter, among other things, severe throat infections, alternative airways, perforated eardrums, facial fractures and complex tumor surgery. This provides you with a variation in your profession.

The Ear, Nose and Throat department is a small, pleasant ward with high ceilings. We have five care beds and place great emphasis on self-care among our patients. We are a small, close-knit staff group consisting of a multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, and nursing assistants, with access to daily contact with a dietitian, speech therapist, and physiotherapist.

As an employee, you will receive tailored induction training so that you feel safe, secure, and competent in your work. If interested, there is great openness to personal development and improvement projects for the ward.

The Day Surgery Unit (DKA) is a small unit within the ward where we are open Monday to Friday for both child and adult patients, with 7 DKA beds. Here we have patients from various parts of NHHC, including ENT, Jaw Surgery, Neurosurgery, Neurology, and dental patients.

We invite all applicants who proceed to the interview stage to participate in a shadowing day to give a closer insight into our department and work environment. You will be employed on a permanent basis by Region Västerbotten with a temporary placement at the Ear, Nose, Throat and Jaw Surgery Department until August 31, 2027.

Job Responsibilities

As a nurse with us, you contribute to taking good care of others and helping people feel better.

You will work with people in need of advanced care and nursing within the field of Ear, Nose, Throat and Jaw Surgery. You will primarily be placed on our ward, but if needed after induction, you may also work at the DKA.

As a nurse on the ward, you participate in patient care and lead the nursing work. This includes both pre- and postoperative care, management of tracheostomy tubes, alternative airways, and care after complex tumor surgery in the head and neck area, as well as our acute patients. Many of our patients also have feeding tubes, central lines, and wound drains. You will also assist our doctors with various examinations. On our ward, we use NEWS2 to identify deterioration in vital functions in patients and take subsequent actions. Since our patients are often awake and able to perform their ADL (Activities of Daily Living) independently, the work is usually not physically demanding.

Your duties at the DKA focus on pre- and postoperative care, but will vary as our patients come from many different specialties within our center, including shorter surgical procedures such as tonsillectomies, hearing-improving surgeries, sinus surgery, X-ray examinations, and hearing tests under sedation. Here we care for children of all ages and adult patients.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who are a registered nurse.

On our ward, we care for adult patients, but you may encounter children as patients at the DKA.

We place great value on seeing opportunities in different situations, being positive, and contributing to a good work environment. To succeed in the role, you need to be responsible and have good communication skills.

We value a candidate who can collaborate effectively with different team members and professional groups.

To succeed in the role, you need to be comfortable working independently. We encourage our employees to take initiative and make decisions when needed. Personal suitability is of significant importance, and the knowledge required for the position is provided through internal training and learning from colleagues.

Employment type: Permanent employment.
Duration: Permanent.
Working hours: According to schedule.
