to apply for the job
RFSL is facing a pivotal shift. We aim to strengthen our long-term financial independence, broaden our revenue streams, and build more strategic relationships with philanthropists, foundations, companies, institutions, and other actors who want to contribute to real societal change.
This is a role for you who move effortlessly between civil society, philanthropy, business, foundations, strong brands, executive teams, and boards. You are accustomed to taking space in front of people, building trust in senior contexts, and driving dialogues with both strategic height and commercial sharpness.
You understand that long-term funding is not created through individual applications, but through relationships, trust, clear positioning, and the ability to formulate an offer that people and organizations want to be part of.
Your role with us
As the person responsible for strategic funding and philanthropy, you will play a key role in developing and driving RFSL's work with larger funding relationships.
You work with philanthropists, foundations, major private donors, companies, strategic partners, and other external funders. The focus is on building long-term funding, strengthening RFSL's financial resilience, and creating new revenue streams that give the organization greater freedom of action.
The role is both strategic and operational. You identify opportunities, build relationships, develop funding cases, drive dialogues, and take responsibility for ensuring relationships lead to concrete funding.
For more information about duties, please see the advertisement on RFSL's career page.
About you
We are looking for you who have senior experience in strategic funding, philanthropy, partnerships, capital raising, business development, or other relationship-driven processes that have created funding, partnerships, or social impact. You may have a background from civil society, business, the foundation sector, sustainability, communication, fundraising, or similar operations.
It is meritorious if you have experience from larger brand-driven organizations or other complex operations where sustainability, internal anchoring, external positioning, and business acumen interact. Experience with Sida (Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency) is not a requirement. The most important thing is that you have the ability to build trusting relationships, mobilize resources, and contribute to long-term funding.
You are a secure, proactive, and relationship-strong person with good strategic ability, strong personal drive, and good judgment. You build trust through quality, clarity, and collaboration, and can combine business acumen with a strong commitment to the organization's values and mission.
For more information about desirable personal qualities and experiences, please see the advertisement on RFSL's career page.
We assume that you stand behind RFSL's basic principles.
To manage and thrive in the role, we see that you have:
- Several years of documented experience in strategic funding, fundraising, philanthropy, capital raising, partnerships, or business development.
- Experience in securing major funding, partnerships, or strategic collaborations.
- Very good experience operating in contexts with executive teams, boards, owners, philanthropists, or senior decision-makers.
- Strong ability to present, anchor, and drive dialogues with people in a secure and business-like manner.
- Experience with complex organizations where many perspectives, decision levels, and interests need to be handled.
- Ability to package ideas, operations, and social benefits so that they create engagement and funding.
- Very good communicative skills in Swedish and English.
- Experience working structured with pipeline, relationships, follow-up, and results.
Meritorious experiences
- Experience in international development cooperation and human rights work.
- Experience working with Swedish and international institutional donors.
- Experience with major donor fundraising and working with high-net-worth individuals.
- Own network within philanthropy, the foundation sector, or international funding.
- Experience in capital raising within the non-profit sector or civil society.
- Experience working in international and politically complex contexts.
