Visby Hospital has a broad healthcare mandate and provides Gotland with emergency and planned specialist care. The island location requires the resources of a large hospital but simultaneously offers the proximity and community spirit of a smaller hospital. A wide range of activities are represented within both surgical and medical specialties.
The ENT department is responsible for ear, nose, and throat care for Gotland's approximately 60,000 residents and sees around 7,000 patients per year. The department operates in close collaboration with other surgical specialties, the dermatology clinic, and the Oral and Maxillofacial Center. We strive to retain as much ENT care as possible at Visby Hospital. We have an established collaboration with Stockholm, with recurring consulting physicians in tumor surgery, otologic surgery, plastic surgery, audiology, and phoniatrics based there. Patients requiring highly specialized care are primarily referred to Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm.
The ENT department has six senior consultant positions and is currently undergoing a generational shift. Today, we are a young team consisting of three senior consultants, two specialist doctors, and two resident doctors (ST-doctors), along with several recurring hourly substitutes who relieve us from on-call duties and spread inspiration and knowledge. The department has a high ceiling and is characterized by a strong willingness to collaborate, great engagement, and humility.
Are you eager to change your environment and try something new? Work together with a young, cohesive, and courageous team? Take a break from the daily grind and trade overtime for time off? Then this is a position for you!
Your Responsibilities
Since the after-hours duty (bakjour) is our single most important task, it is important that you have experience from 24/7 healthcare, experience with after-hours work during the last five years, and can directly join the after-hours leadership team. If you have a subspecialization, there is room to work with and develop this. In addition to regular emergency and planned outpatient activities, we have 1.5 days of surgical operations per week and two days of outpatient surgeries, primarily for skin tumors.
The ENT on-call service includes home on-call duty (on-call A), and the hospital's AT-doctors and resident doctors in medicine/surgery are our primary on-call staff during on-call hours.
Who are you?
Swedish licens and specialist competence in ENT are required.
We are looking for you with interest and engagement in the development of the department. You have good experience in basic surgical activities within ENT and are positive towards the development, education, and supervision of resident doctors in your own specialty and general practitioners. Good collaboration skills with other professional groups and other specialties are highly valued, and we place great emphasis on personal suitability.
Due to an upcoming retirement, we offer a permanent position. There is great potential for flexibility, and part-time solutions are also interesting. Research opportunities can be discussed and are linked to collaboration with the regional clinic.
A background check through an extract from the criminal record will be conducted prior to a decision on employment.
