We have a common strategy for education in our municipality: to create a cohesive educational chain that contributes to increased equity, improved study results, and attractive education. With us, all children, young people, and adults should have the opportunity to reach their full potential and develop their knowledge and skills. We know that this is built on engaged, knowledgeable, and professional employees who conduct high-quality teaching. We make a difference every day and are proud of our mission. We have Sweden's most important job – our mission is to give young people hope for the future.

The Student Health Service in preschool and primary school works in teams consisting of school nurses, school counselors, school psychologists, the school's special educator, and the principal. We work based on the intentions of the Education Act. The Student Health Service should primarily work in a health-promoting and preventive manner, at the individual, group, and organizational levels, to support the student towards the goals of education.

Do you want to make a difference for students with linguistic vulnerability? Then this might be the job for you! The Student Health Service, Competence Centre for Language and Communication, is looking for an engaged special educator or special teacher who wants to help develop the language-supporting work in Umeå Municipality's schools.

Your responsibilities

You will be part of an interdisciplinary team together with other special educational staff and speech therapists, with the task of supporting schools in the work on linguistic accessibility. Through education and supervision of teachers and pedagogical staff, you will contribute to promoting health and learning for students in relation to teaching and regulatory documents. It is a given that you consider the students' perspective and their opportunities for participation and influence in their education. Part of your task is to support the schools in the implementation and work with set goals for language development and accessibility, as well as to follow up and evaluate these measures.

In interventions regarding individual students, this may involve providing support in mapping linguistic needs and suggesting measures within both regular teaching and special support. This is done in close collaboration with the relevant teachers and the student health team on behalf of the principal, who leads and sets the framework for the measures. Within your assignment, there are good opportunities for development and to be involved in designing special educational measures.

About you

We are looking for you who have a genuine commitment to students' development and learning. You are solution-focused, flexible in your work, and confident in your professional role. Furthermore, you have good collaboration skills and are communicative, with the ability to build trusting relationships with both students, colleagues, and guardians. You also have unrestricted knowledge of the Swedish language in speech and writing. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

Requirements

  • Degree as a special educator or special teacher with specialization in language, reading, and writing development
  • Licensed teacher with qualification in primary school
  • Experience of teaching in primary school
  • Experience of special educational work that includes supervision and student health work at the organizational level
  • Experience and knowledge of language disorders (DLD), neurodevelopmental disorders (NPF), and reading and writing difficulties related to teaching and learning

Merits

Competence and experience in the following areas related to linguistic accessibility and a language-supporting perspective:

  • Multilingual development and Swedish as a second language
  • Digital learning resources in relation to teaching and learning
  • Plan and lead development work
  • Experience of organizing measures related to the teaching of particularly gifted students
