The Department of Applied Physics and Electronics provides teaching at undergraduate and advanced levels in mechanical engineering, electronics/computer engineering, energy technology, building technology, and media technology. We are now looking for a teaching assistant in energy technology. The position is for 10% of a full-time role for a period of 10 months, with a start date of August 24, 2025, or as agreed. The employment must be carried out concurrently with studies, and the workload may vary during the semester. The application deadline is June 17, 2025.

Responsibilities

The role of teaching assistant involves supervising laboratory sessions and participating in the assessment of students' laboratory reports. The duties also include other tasks beyond teaching, such as developing existing laboratory exercises and quality work related to course and program evaluation. The quality work may include the following:

  • Compiling course evaluations from different years
  • Analyzing and evaluating different courses based on collected data
  • Discussing and consulting with students on the program regarding shortcomings and good examples
  • Contributing suggestions for changes
  • Evaluating and documenting all relevant tasks, and communicating this to relevant stakeholders.
  • Helping, supporting, and informing the program's students on matters related to education.
  • Working within the program leadership on issues that increase the program's collaboration and marketing, both internally and externally.

Additionally, the role includes serving as a contact teaching assistant for our educational programs and participating in activities directed towards primary and upper secondary schools (e.g., participating in Umeå University's Open House Day).

Eligibility

Eligible for employment as a teaching assistant is a student admitted to undergraduate or advanced level education at a university or college.

Qualifications

You who apply for the position as a teaching assistant should:

  • be an active student in year 2, 3, or 4 of the Civil Engineering program in Energy Technology at Umeå University
  • understand and be interested in explaining energy technology processes
  • have good planning skills and be able to complete tasks on time.

Furthermore, you should have good social competence and be interested in teaching and educational issues. The selection among applicants is based on the applicant's merits, suitability, and experience of similar tasks.

Scope

The employment period is limited to one year, starting as agreed. The position is for 10% of a full-time role, but the actual workload may vary during the semester. The employment must be carried out concurrently with studies.
