The Västmanland-Dalarna Environmental and Building Administration is a joint administration for the municipalities of Avesta, Fagersta, and Norberg. We work with environmental and health protection, building permits, mapping and surveying activities, as well as GIS. Through collaboration, we leverage competence and resources to deliver efficient and high-quality services in a region with just over 42,000 inhabitants.

Do you want to work with socially important information and contribute to the development of three municipalities in collaboration? The Västmanland-Dalarna Environmental and Building Administration is now looking for an engaged GIS Engineer who wants to help develop the digital societal construction processes of the future in the municipalities of Avesta, Fagersta, and Norberg.

About the position

As a GIS Engineer, you will play a key role in developing, managing, and operating our GIS platforms and technical environments. The role combines system administration, backend development, and business-oriented support.

You will work across our entire operational area, which means collaborating with several municipalities, different operations, and many stakeholders.

In the role, you will among other things:

  • Operate, administer, and maintain databases, business systems, and server environments.
  • Work with backend development and system integrations.
  • Develop and further develop GIS platforms and business systems.
  • Program and develop scripts.
  • Provide support and assistance related to GIS and system solutions.
  • Manage licenses, technical environments, and open-source solutions.
  • Participate in and drive technical development work within the administration.

Formal qualifications

  • University education in GIS, IT, or another relevant area, or alternatively, work experience that the employer considers equivalent.
  • Knowledge of databases (PostgreSQL/PostGIS and SQL) through education or experience.
  • Practical experience in backend development.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as JavaScript, JSON, and Python.
  • Experience working with publishing platforms, e.g., GeoServer or QGIS Server.
  • Experience with open-source-based GIS solutions.
  • Good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish.

Employment type: Permanent position.
