Job Description

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoc to join our interdisciplinary research group in AI and machine learning for surgical patients.

The project focuses on the early prediction of complications using patient characteristics and high-frequency patient data from the operation. You will work at the forefront of applied machine learning and signal processing within clinical research, focusing on key aspects such as explainable, transparent, and well-calibrated AI models that can also express uncertainty in predictions and detect changes over time (drift).

The project you will be part of is rooted in an interdisciplinary environment where KTH collaborates with clinicians at Karolinska University Hospital within advanced surgery for high-risk patients. You will collaborate closely with experts in anesthesia and machine learning.

Your main tasks include designing, developing necessary software for, and conducting experiments on retrospective patient data, including high-resolution waveform data from patient monitors at Karolinska or from corresponding open data sources. You are also expected to contribute to the development and implementation of experimental machine learning methods, as well as supervise students at undergraduate and advanced levels.

  • A completed PhD degree or a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a PhD. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than at the time the employment decision is made.
  • Documented knowledge in machine learning, signal processing, applied mathematics, computer science, biomedical engineering, or related fields.
  • Ability to independently create software implementations for the purpose.
  • Very good written and oral communication skills in English, as this is required in daily work.

Personal Attributes

  • Interdisciplinary collaboration and communication skills, preferably within clinical research.
  • Awareness of diversity and equal treatment issues, with a particular focus on gender equality.

Merits

  • At the latest application deadline, no more than three years have passed since the PhD degree or a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a PhD was awarded.
  • Experience with experimental evaluations using modern deep network architectures and other machine learning techniques.
  • Experience in supervising student projects/theses and other pedagogical skills.

We will place great emphasis on personal attributes.
