More information about us can be found at: Department of Romance and Classical Studies (#).

Subject/Description

Academic education in Romance languages has been offered in Stockholm since the late 1920s. After just under ten years, the first professorship in Romance languages was established in 1937. The undergraduate education at the Department of Romance Languages was divided into four languages in the 1960s: French, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish. This remains the case today: the subject of Italian is part of the Department of Romance and Classical Studies, where, alongside the aforementioned Romance languages, it also includes education and research in Greek, Latin, and Latin American studies. The department constitutes a dynamic research and educational environment and currently has approximately 70 employees.

Over 700 students study Italian at the undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels each academic year at the Department of Romance and Classical Studies. Teaching and research in Italian are focused on literary studies, linguistics, second language acquisition, and older literature. Central research areas within all Romance languages are literary and linguistic studies.

Job Responsibilities

The responsibilities consist of teaching at the undergraduate level across four sub-courses with a literary or literary-studies orientation: Italian Literature (Italian I), Literary History (Italian II), Literary Text Analysis (Italian II), and Advanced Literary Studies (Italian, Bachelor's course). Teaching responsibilities also include course coordination, course administration, and examination. Teaching takes place on campus and remotely.

Qualifications

To be eligible for employment as a University Lecturer in Italian, one must have completed a PhD in Italian or another relevant subject and demonstrated pedagogical competence. As a specific qualification requirement, the applicant must have documented very good proficiency in spoken and written Italian and good proficiency in Swedish.

Evaluation Criteria

Particular emphasis is placed on pedagogical competence. This competence must be demonstrated through documented experience in teaching and course development within relevant undergraduate courses. The competence must be well-documented in a way that allows for the assessment of the quality of the pedagogical activities.

Significant weight is also given to knowledge of the Italian language and Italian literary studies.

In cases of otherwise equal qualifications, experience in second or foreign language teaching is distinguishing.

The Department of Romance and Classical Studies will primarily consider the candidate who, after a holistic assessment of competence, qualifications, skills, and personal attributes, has the best prerequisites for carrying out the current job responsibilities and contributing to the positive development of the operations.
