Job Description
Ion channels are vital for life among organisms, and a sophisticated understanding of their function is absolutely necessary for basic, biomedical, and applied research. The overarching goal of the proposed project is to develop ion channel activators and inhibitors. Unmet specificity needs will be addressed by targeting subtype- and conformation-specific properties, thereby limiting side effects. The focus will be on Kv7 channels, which are linked to a range of serious neurological disorders, including epilepsy, sleep disorders, and autism.
The postdoctoral researcher will perform molecular modeling and molecular dynamics simulations of these channels bound to various modulators. The results will be integrated into a KAW-funded collaborative project with four other principal investigators conducting cryo-electron microscopy, electrophysiology, behavioral experiments, and machine learning.
