University of Gothenburg meets society's challenges with versatile knowledge. With 58,000 students and 6,800 employees, the university is a large and inspiring workplace. Strong research and attractive education attract researchers and students from all over the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University of Gothenburg contributes to a better future.

The Department of Clinical Sciences is one of six departments at the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg. Research and education are conducted at the department with a focus on human health and quality of life. We represent 16 different subject areas and are divided into four sections. Through enriching collaboration with healthcare and Sahlgrenska University Hospital, we have developed joint projects and meeting places that benefit both care and research.

The Division of Oncology at the Sahlgrenska Academy is a leader in cancer research and care, focusing on understanding, combating, and treating various forms of cancer through groundbreaking research and clinical initiatives.

The group conducts cancer research with a focus on comprehensive analyses of tumors in ovarian cancer. To identify new biomarkers and cancer-related genes, data from omics analyses (i.e., SNP arrays, RNA sequencing, DNA methylation, gene expression microarrays, mass spectrometry), molecular techniques (FISH [fluorescence in situ hybridization], immunohistochemistry, cell transfection, Western blot, real-time qPCR), and clinicopathological data from cancer cell lines and patient samples are integrated. The goal is to identify biomarkers for early diagnostics, drug development, and patient stratification in ovarian cancer.

Subject

Cancer biology with a focus on omics analysis of ovarian cancer

Subject Description

The subject covers research in cancer biology with a special emphasis on the analysis of omics data, such as RNA sequencing, DNA methylation, and proteomics from various cohorts of patients with ovarian tumors. The work focuses on mapping the molecular mechanisms behind tumor development and increasing the understanding of tumor heterogeneity and treatment response in patients with ovarian cancer. The subject includes both bioinformatic analyses and experimental methods in molecular biology, as well as the analysis of clinicopathological data.

Job Responsibilities

The incumbent will work with bioinformatic and molecular biological analyses, participate in both experimental and analytical work, and contribute to scientific production by writing articles, presenting at meetings, and supervising doctoral students and students.

Qualifications

Eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher is someone who has completed a doctoral degree, an artistic doctoral degree, or has a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a doctoral degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than at the time the employment decision is made.

Priority should be given to those who have completed their degree no more than three years before the application deadline. Those who completed their degree earlier should also be considered in priority if there are special reasons. Special reasons include leave due to illness, parental leave, trust positions within trade unions, service in the total defense, or other similar circumstances, as well as clinical service or service/assignments relevant to the subject area.

Evaluation Criteria

A doctoral degree in biomedicine, molecular biology, bioinformatics, or a related field is required. Applicants must have documented experience in bioinformatic analyses and the ability to perform both bioinformatic and molecular biological laboratory work.

The candidate must have experience in conducting both experimental and analytical work and be able to actively contribute to scientific production. This includes experience in writing scientific articles, presenting research at conferences and meetings, and supervising doctoral students and/or students.

Key Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaborate in interdisciplinary teams
  • RNA expression analysis
  • DNA methylation
  • Proteomics
  • Good communication skills in English, both oral and written

Additional Merits:

Experience in tumor analysis.
