About the Consultation Unit
The Consultation Unit has been part of Psychiatry South West for over 25 years. Here, psychiatrists, specialist nurses in psychiatry, psychologists, and administrators work within the field of consultation and liaison psychiatry (Consultation Liaison Psychiatry, CLP), which often constitutes a distinct subspecialty within psychiatry internationally.
CLP has two main objectives:
- To identify and treat mental health problems and psychiatric conditions in patients currently receiving somatic care
- To support, educate, and supervise somatic care staff in the care of patients with psychiatric/psychological issues
We work as psychiatric consultants within somatic inpatient care at Karolinska University Hospital Huddinge, as well as at somatic specialist clinics at several other hospitals in Region Stockholm, such as SpecMVC, neurology, infectious diseases, and oncology.
Our patients always have an ongoing somatic care contact where their psychiatric comorbidity, ranging from primary care level to severe psychiatric illness, complicates the somatic care situation in various ways. We regularly participate in multidisciplinary teams (liaison) with somatic care providers, as well as in teaching and supervision. Direct patient work involves both shorter and longer care contacts, emphasizing a generalist holistic perspective and often more in-depth assessment work, with a proactive and catalyzing purpose.
About the Position
We are now looking for a specialist in psychiatry for the Consultation Unit for a permanent position at 100%, starting August 15, 2026, or as agreed.
Responsibilities
As a specialist physician with us, you will:
- Work consultatively with somatic inpatient and outpatient care
- Perform psychiatric assessments, participate in investigations and follow-ups in parallel with somatic care providers, directly and indirectly.
- Participate in multidisciplinary teams and conferences, supervise and support somatic care staff
- Plan and conduct educational initiatives
- Work at our outpatient clinic, currently focusing on perinatal psychiatry and functional neurological symptoms (FNS)
The work involves close collaboration with both psychiatric and somatic care; you will play a central role in contributing to holistic assessment and care for patients with complex comorbidity.
Qualifications
- Licensed physician with specialist training in psychiatry
- Good knowledge of Swedish in speech and writing (minimum level C1)
- Experience from somatic care is meritorious
- Experience in consultation psychiatry is an advantage
Personal Attributes
We are looking for you who want to help develop consultation psychiatry in Stockholm and feel a strong commitment to the patient group. You:
- Enjoy working in a somatic care environment and collaborating across professional and specialty boundaries
- Are unpretentious, interested, flexible, and creative with a genuine interest in the patient as a whole person
- Can adapt your work effort to the needs of patients and operations
- Have good ability to work both independently and in teams
Great importance is attached to personal suitability.
