Gagnef Municipal Library is part of the Culture and Leisure Administration. Seven employees work here, and together we offer the municipality's residents an engaged and high-quality library and cultural offering. You will become part of a team consisting of two children and youth librarians and one school librarian. We operate integrated public and school libraries with the main library in Djurås. Branches are located in Mockfjärd (the largest), as well as smaller units in Dala-Floda and Björbo.

Since 2023, we have been part of Dalabiblioteken, a collaboration between Dalarna's fifteen municipal libraries, sharing a common library system and website.

Gagnef Municipal Library is now looking for a children and youth librarian to join an engaged team with strong cooperation between public libraries, preschools, and family centers. We warmly welcome your application!

Gagnef offers proximity to nature, cultural life, and a vibrant association and village life. The municipality has affordable house prices and several newly built schools. Falun and Borlänge are within commuting distance for those who want access to a larger city life, and the Siljan area with Leksand and Rättvik is reachable in about 30–40 minutes by car.

Responsibilities

You will lead and initiate reading promotion programs and activities for children, young people, and parents. The focus of the position can be shaped to some extent based on the applicant's experience and interest – either with a focus on younger children and cooperation with Child Health Care (BVC) and preschool, or towards middle school children and youth.

The work also includes marketing and communication regarding our own events. Gagnef Municipal Library participates in the regional cooperation "Språkslingan," which is both a working group within Dalabiblioteken and a local language network.

The position also includes standard librarian duties, such as staffing during opening hours, guiding visitors, lending literature, assisting with information retrieval, and providing basic digital guidance. You will also work with media selection, book handling, and maintenance of the book collection.

Cooperation, participation, and knowledge sharing are important parts of our work culture, as well as environmental scanning and development within your own area of responsibility.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have good pedagogical skills and enjoy meeting, guiding, and inspiring children, young people, and adults in the library's activities. You are confident speaking in front of both large and small groups and express yourself well in speech and writing in Swedish.

You take initiative, work independently, and thrive in close cooperation with colleagues, school staff, and other activities surrounding children and young people. You have good ability to plan and structure your work and are curious about development within the library's work on reading promotion and literature mediation.

You have an academic degree in library and information science, or other relevant education. You have good knowledge of children's and young adult literature, and previous experience of children's activities at a library is meritorious. Good IT skills are required.

Conditions

The position is a permanent part-time employment (75%), with a start date of August 10, 2026, or as agreed. A valid driver's license (Category B) and access to a car are required. Working hours may include some evenings and weekends.

A probationary period of 6 months may apply. Since the position involves work with children and young people, a certificate of good conduct (extract from the police register) is required before employment.
