Hospitals in the West is an administration within the Region of Västra Götaland and consists of four hospitals – Alingsås Hospital, Angered Primary Hospital, Högsbo Primary Hospital, and Kungälv Hospital. Approximately 3,000 employees work with us every day to provide good, safe, and high-quality specialist healthcare.
Are you a nurse who wants to drive development – and at the same time make a difference for patients with palliative care needs?
We are now looking for a registered nurse for a permanent position on our surgical department, combining clinical work with a development assignment within palliative care. During 2026, the assignment is part of a funded project from RCC (Regional Cancer Centre) focusing on developing methods and structures for patients in need of palliative care within surgical inpatient care.
The position gives you the opportunity to make a real difference – for patients in the final stages of life, their relatives, and for the quality of care at Kungälv Hospital.
About the role
The position involves two parts:
- Clinical work as a nurse on the surgical department
- Development work 50% within palliative care in an RCC-funded development project focusing on the implementation of palliative care stations
The development assignment is part of an improvement project supported by RCC West, with the aim of strengthening palliative care within surgical inpatient care through clearer structures, methods, and competence enhancement.
About the assignment
The project aims to develop, structure, and implement methods within palliative care, with the goal of creating a more cohesive, secure, and person-centered care for our patients.
You will have a central role in the implementation of the project and work in close collaboration with healthcare staff, unit manager, the mobile palliative team, business developers, and other relevant operations.
Responsibilities
Clinical work – surgical department:
- Work as a nurse in daily care
- Responsible for nursing, prioritization, and coordination
- Medication management and follow-up
- Meet patients with both acute and palliative needs
Development work – palliative care:
- Implementation of palliative care stations in clinical operations
- Creation and introduction of routines and care processes
- Planning and implementation of methods within palliative care, based on the National Care Programme
- Mentoring and support to colleagues
- Support in documentation and registration in the Palliative Register
- Follow-up of results, quality, and process metrics
- Collaboration with municipal actors and internal partners
Qualifications
You are a registered nurse with clinical experience, preferably from surgical care or inpatient care.
Experience in palliative care is meritorious, but above all, we are looking for you with a strong interest in the area.
We are looking for someone who:
- Is development-driven and proactive
- Has a genuine interest in patients in palliative stages
- Is confident in your professional role and can work independently
- Has good pedagogical and communicative skills
- Has good collaboration skills and works well in interdisciplinary teams
- Enjoys combining clinical work with development and improvement work
You are proficient in Swedish, both spoken and written.
Conditions
Permanent position as a nurse.
The clinical part involves work during days, evenings, and weekends on the surgical department.
The development assignment covers 50% during the project period.
Location: Kungälv Hospital.
Selection and interviews take place on an ongoing basis.
Here you have the opportunity to influence, develop, and at the same time work close to the patient – in a role and assignment where quality, palliative care, and human dignity are at the center!
Welcome with your application!
