Citizen and Community Development – Mellansjö Library Cooperation

In this role, you play a key part alongside us within the Citizen and Community Development sector. We work towards a vibrant Skövde rich in culture, sports, and business. This also includes working for growth, more jobs, and strengthening Skövde's attractiveness.

The libraries in Skövde consist of a main library in Kulturhuset, Sweden's oldest cultural house, as well as six branch libraries, and are part of the Culture and Leisure Department. We work closely together with seven other municipalities within the Mellansjö Library cooperation and use the innovative library system Koha, which we help develop ourselves. Our development work is largely driven by employees and has made us a role model for public libraries in Sweden.

The Culture Department falls under the Culture and Leisure Committee and consists of the culture office, the school of arts and city museum, libraries with branches, the stage and events unit, and the art unit.

Skövde Municipality's organization is large and includes everything from care, support, and education for our citizens to infrastructure, maintenance, cultural life, and growth. The work may look slightly different depending on which operation we work in, but all represent the same employer, Skövde Municipality.

RESPONSIBILITIES

With us, you are an important part of the library's daily operations. You work with literature mediation, both in routine tasks and in projects, and participate in public service, with tasks within the daily library operations. The role also includes assignments from the head librarian based on operational needs, as well as some scope to contribute to other parts of the operation based on your competence and experience. You are part of the library's management group together with the head librarian and another operations manager, and participate in various working groups. The work includes evening and weekend shifts.

You have a central role in the Mellansjö Library cooperation. Here, you work on creating an overview, catching questions, and contributing to ensuring that the work between different groups hangs together. You participate in the steering group's work, where you prepare cases, lead meetings, and follow up to ensure decisions are implemented.

You are responsible for the operations group, which is the operational working group under the steering group. There, you are the chairperson and convener, and act as a link between the steering group, the operations group, and other parts of the cooperation.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in Library and Information Science or other relevant academic education
  • Experience of qualified work within libraries or similar operations
  • Experience in leading meetings, coordinating work, or driving processes
  • Good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish

It is meritorious to have experience of cooperation in larger organizations or networks, preferably between municipalities, as well as work close to management or in contexts where decisions are prepared and followed up. Experience in driving processes, projects, or development work in complex operations is seen as an advantage, as is work with literature mediation or operational development within libraries. Knowledge of library systems, especially Koha, is an asset.

You have a good ability to create structure and drive work forward, even in complex contexts. You work independently and take responsibility for your tasks, while also being easy to collaborate with and build relationships. You are confident in leading and coordinating without formal managerial responsibility, and have the ability to translate decisions into practical implementation.
