The Gothenburg University Library is one of the largest libraries in the country and consists of seven units with different subject orientations. The Gothenburg University Library is primarily responsible for information supply at Gothenburg University, but also has a national and regional responsibility.
The Humanities Libraries consist of two libraries that primarily provide service to students and researchers within the Faculty of Humanities and Fine Arts. Our unique collections also attract a broad general public, and we have many visitors. With approximately 70 employees, we are the largest unit within the Gothenburg University Library. The operations are organized into six teams led by team leaders.
We are now looking for a university librarian for the Humanities Libraries to work with cataloging. The position is a permanent full-time (100%) position located in the Cataloging Team.
Responsibilities
You must be able to independently perform secondary and primary cataloging in Libris, including classification and indexing with Swedish subject headings. The team catalogs media for all libraries in the organization, and the work covers printed material in several subject areas, including medicine and natural sciences. The work may include cataloging of newly acquired material as well as retrospective cataloging of older material. The collections include literature in several languages.
Work planning is done in collaboration with the rest of the team, and you contribute to both development work and ongoing operations. With the support of colleagues in the Cataloging Team, you also keep up to date with regulations and practices for accessibility in Libris and the local catalog, Koha.
Information services or work with literature retrieval are part of the position. Evening and weekend work may occur.
Qualifications
You must have an academic degree in library and information science and experience with cataloging in Libris. You must have good knowledge of Swedish and English. Additional language skills are meritorious. Experience with classification using the Dewey Decimal Classification and indexing with Swedish subject headings or other controlled vocabulary systems, such as MeSH, is meritorious. Experience working at a research library is also meritorious.
The tasks require attention to detail and endurance, and you have a good ability to work independently. Teamwork requires good collaboration skills, and you naturally contribute to a positive and development-oriented work climate.
Employment
The position is a permanent full-time (100%) employment. Location: Gothenburg University Library, Humanities Library. Probation period may apply. Start date by agreement.
