To carry out our mission regarding art, culture, nature, and cultural heritage, the core operations are divided into two departments: Art and Culture, and Nature and Cultural Heritage, each further divided into several units. The Nature and Cultural Heritage department operates six museums and visitor attractions. To coordinate cross-cutting issues across the administration, we work in a matrix structure, including our work with municipalities, children and young people, shared services, and Agenda 2030.

Lödöse Museum is a knowledge centre about the Middle Ages and medieval Lödöse, which at the time was one of Sweden's largest cities. Through exhibitions and events, we spark curiosity and increase knowledge about history, archaeology, and the Middle Ages. We work with museum collections, advisory services, and research in fields such as the Middle Ages, archaeology, and cultural history. The museum also features a historically inspired herb garden, a museum shop, and a café.

In the heart of the Göta River Valley, just a short drive north of Gothenburg, lies our museum, a true medieval pearl. With over half a million finds, Lödöse is today one of the most archaeologically rich medieval sites in Sweden. Most of the finds were once everyday objects from medieval life.

Background

Lödöse Museum is an archaeological museum focusing on the Middle Ages, managing a unique collection of approximately 500,000 archaeological finds. The finds come from the area formerly known as Älvsborg County, with the vast majority originating from medieval Lödöse. The collections and archaeology are a vital part of the museum's activities, providing the knowledge that forms the basis for our exhibitions, tours, and lectures.

All employees actively contribute to the museum's mediation and public programs to raise awareness and interest in the Middle Ages and archaeology.

About the Position

We are now looking for a dedicated building maintenance worker (fastighetsskötare) for Lödöse Museum. Here, you will play a key role in creating a welcoming, safe, and inspiring environment, both inside our exhibition spaces and in the surrounding outdoor areas.

In this role, you are responsible for ensuring our premises and areas are well-maintained, functional, and pleasant for visitors of all ages. You will also be part of the work to develop and improve the museum's environments, where history, culture, and human interaction are central. You will also have an important role in our safety and emergency preparedness work.

Responsibilities

• Daily supervision and maintenance of the museum's premises and outdoor areas.
• Technical maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs.
• Support during exhibition construction and renovations.
• Maintenance of gardens and grounds.
• Contact with suppliers and contractors as needed.
• Participation in public events and tours.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with relevant professional experience and/or education in operations, building maintenance, or a similar field. You have solid knowledge of building maintenance, technical systems, and practical maintenance work.

You have documented experience in carpentry, minor building maintenance and repairs, as well as experience in gardening and groundskeeping, with the ability to create well-maintained and pleasant outdoor environments.

Experience working in a museum context, preferably with an understanding of cultural environments and exhibition production, is considered an advantage. Experience in cultural mediation, such as guiding or educational activities, is also seen as an advantage.

Personal Attributes

You are solution-oriented, practical, and have a genuine interest in culture and history. You thrive with varied tasks and find it easy to collaborate with colleagues and interact with visitors. Taking initiative and identifying what needs to be done is second nature to you.
