The Dutch Department is part of the Department of Slavic and Baltic Languages, Finnish, Dutch and German, which belongs to the Faculty of Humanities. The department has approximately 50 employees and approximately 1,500 students per academic year.

Subject/Subject Description

Stockholm University is the only higher education institution in Sweden that offers Dutch as a subject. The teaching within the Dutch department is language-oriented, focusing on foreign or third-language acquisition, translation, literature, and Dutch-speaking cultures.

Job Responsibilities

The responsibilities consist of teaching and related tasks. The position includes teaching Dutch as a foreign language at the introductory level, covering beginner courses in Pronunciation and Language Practice, Conversation, as well as Oral Proficiency and Written Proficiency.

The role also involves pedagogical development of (sub)courses in consultation with the Dutch faculty, course administration, examination, and work with the university's learning platform. Work with study-social activities (e.g., language café) for Dutch students is also included. A large part of the teaching is web-based and takes place in the evenings.

Regular presence at the workplace is expected and considered an important prerequisite for a well-functioning collegial collaboration within the department.

Qualifications

Eligible for employment is someone who has completed a relevant university education or has equivalent competence, and has demonstrated pedagogical skill.

As a general qualification requirement, one must have the ability to collaborate as well as the ability and suitability otherwise required to perform the job duties well.

The language of instruction is Dutch, but contrastive elements with Swedish are included. Excellent knowledge of Dutch as well as knowledge of Swedish is therefore a requirement.

Evaluation Criteria

Particular weight is attached to previous experience of teaching Dutch as a foreign language at the university level.

Particular weight is attached to previous experience of digital and/or web-based teaching.

Particular weight is attached to pedagogical skill, demonstrated through teaching within the subject area and focus of the current position. The skill must be well documented in a way that makes it possible to assess the quality of the pedagogical activity.

Great weight is attached to education within the subject area of the current position.

Great weight is also attached to documented ability to collaborate with colleagues and coworkers.

Great weight is attached to a positive attitude towards students.

Meritorious is a Dutch/Belgian or Swedish teacher education.

Meritorious is experience in organizing and implementing study-social activities with students at the university level.

Meritorious is administrative skill and experience of international cooperation.

Meritorious is higher education pedagogical training of at least 15 higher education credits or equivalent knowledge acquired in another way.

About the Position

The position is for 25–30 % and is fixed-term until 2027-07-15. The position of Assistant Lecturer (Adjunkt) at Stockholm University does not offer promotion possibilities to higher-level academic positions. Start date 2026-08-15 or by agreement.
