About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will become safer and more secure for everyone. We are the agency responsible for prisons, probation services, remand prisons, and prisoner transport.

The Umeå operational area includes the closed prison in Umeå, the open prison in Sörbyn, and the remand prison in Umeå. We are undergoing significant capacity expansion, and there is a lot happening in the operational area in terms of renovation and new construction. The largest professional group is prison officers, but healthcare professionals, administrative staff, educators, production managers, and others also work here. At the Sörbyn prison, inmates are engaged in labor market training, learning centers, various treatment programs, or work in the kitchen, carpentry, plant cultivation, textiles, etc. Sörbyn is an agricultural prison with grain cultivation and animal husbandry. At the Umeå prison, inmates are engaged in wood/industry work, kitchen duties, learning centers, and treatment programs. It is about a 10-minute walk from the nearest bus stop to the Umeå prison and remand prison, and Sörbyn prison is most easily reached by car. Staff parking is available at all units.

Job Description

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service provides certain open healthcare services, which means that all prisons and remand prisons have healthcare clinics where inmates can seek care. In addition to nurses, general practitioners and psychiatrists are also present at these clinics.

As a nurse, you have your own clinic for assessing minor ailments, but you also assess which applicants should see a doctor. This means you work with both somatic and psychiatric healthcare for the inmates, assist at medical consultations, and administer medication primarily through dose dispensing.

You will be employed as a nurse within the entire Umeå operational area but with placement at Sörbyn prison. If needed, work may also take place at the Umeå prison or the Umeå remand prison.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who is secure, stable, and self-aware. You find it easy to cooperate with other people and have well-founded and clear values. In stressful situations, you are calm, stable, and controlled. You have great integrity and the ability to make correct assessments and prioritizations. You are quality-conscious and meticulous, and have the ability to structure your approach yourself and drive your processes forward.

To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values regarding a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that humans are capable of development. You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect yourself and others. We are looking for someone who has:

• Registered Nurse license
• Ability to express yourself well in speech and writing in Swedish
• Category B driver's license

The following are also meritorious:

• A specialization or further education relevant to the employer, for example within psychiatry, emergency care, or outpatient care
• Work experience in the profession
• Relevant language skills
