At the Department of Culture and Media Studies (Department of Esthetic Subjects) at Umeå University's Faculty of Humanities, around 40 pleasant colleagues come together, united by their commitment to aesthetic expressions and knowledge areas. One of our key tasks is to provide teacher education in the school's aesthetic subjects: visual arts, music, and craft. We also offer professional-oriented courses in graphic design, fashion and clothing design, and music production. Additionally, we conduct research on both scientific and artistic grounds within aesthetic knowledge areas. This makes our workplace a creative environment where people with different creative interests meet: wood, metal, and textiles, fashion design, visual arts and form, photography, sound, and music, among others. An intermittent employment means that you may be offered employment during individual short-term employment periods within a certain framework period. The periods of employment are time-limited in accordance with Section 5, Paragraph 1 of the Swedish Employment Protection Act (LAS). Standing at disposal in this manner means that a new employment relationship is established each time you are offered and accept work.

The Department of Esthetic Subjects is seeking 1–2 employees who can work during a 12-month framework period starting 2026-08-31 or as agreed. The work will be performed when needs arise in the operations.

Responsibilities:

The responsibilities consist of planning and conducting teaching in one or both of the following music areas:

  • Drum Teaching – teaching primarily takes place on campus, although remote supervision sessions may occur.
  • Music Production – teaching takes place both on-site on campus and as distance learning via online platforms.

The responsibilities also include assessment, in consultation with course coordinators, as well as teaching-related administration.

Competency Requirements:

Eligible for employment is anyone who holds a bachelor's degree or another relevant degree related to one or both of the aforementioned music areas you are applying for.

Competence in drum teaching and/or music production is required.

Professional connection to the music life with links to the aforementioned music areas is also required.

Very good skills in Swedish and English, both spoken and written, as well as the ability to teach in these languages, are requirements for the position.

Qualifications that would be considered an advantage:

Music teacher education or alternative teaching experience within one or both of the aforementioned areas is considered an advantage.

Teaching at the university level within one of the mentioned music areas and experience working via online platforms, such as Zoom, is also considered an advantage.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
