About the Workplace

Hällsboskolan in Umeå is a ten-year state special school under the Swedish National Agency for Special Education. The school receives students with severe speech disorders from all over the country. The school has a clear focus on language-supporting and language-developing teaching, adapting the school day based on the students' individual needs. The teaching is based on the special school ordinance according to basic or adapted basic school curricula.

The school's goal is for students to have the prerequisites to reach knowledge goals, be participatory and active in various social contexts, and develop as individuals. We have skilled and dedicated employees with high competence. The language-developing approach permeates our pedagogical work, and there is a student-oriented student health team.

2 positions available.

Responsibilities

As a student assistant at Hällsboskolan, you will be available to step into all grade levels and in the after-school care activities based on the needs of the operations.

  • You will provide support at both group and individual levels.
  • You will be responsible for recess activities and serve as a recess supervisor in the operations.
  • You are responsible for creating a safe learning environment together with your colleagues.
  • You adapt and shape the work in the classroom and after-school care in accordance with the available planning.
  • You contribute to the school's development.

As a student assistant with us, you work with knowledgeable and experienced colleagues in the daily work of adapting for an accessible learning environment. In the classroom, you work together with colleagues to support students' knowledge development and goal fulfillment. We have small teaching groups to create good conditions for learning and for every student to feel included and develop their communicative ability and language together with others.

The work with us also requires close collaboration with the students' guardians as well as other external actors who are important for the students' health and development. You will also have support from a special educator, IT-pedagogue, counselor, psychologist, school nurse, and speech therapist.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who:

  • Can analyze, document, assess, and evaluate students' development to thereby provide the best possible conditions for learning and goal fulfillment.
  • Can choose alternative, adapted, and complementary pedagogical strategies based on children's needs and prerequisites at group and individual levels.
  • Are flexible in your working method, solution-oriented, and have experience collaborating in work teams regarding student groups.
  • Are inventive and open to trying new things to find students' motivation and joy in schoolwork and after-school activities.
  • Your approach to students is characterized by a low-affective response. You contribute to creating a safe and trusting environment based on mutual respect and good relationships.
  • Express yourself well in speech and writing.
  • Have good IT skills.

Meritorious:

  • Experience working with students with severe speech disorders.
  • Experience working with children in need of special support.
  • Experience working with children with neuropsychiatric disabilities.
  • Experience using IT and media in operations.
  • Experience with AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication).

Personal qualities:

You have personal maturity, integrity, and are proactive. You have good communication and collaboration skills. Experience is required.

Employment Terms

Employment type: Fixed-term employment.
Duration: 6 months or longer.
An extract from the criminal record must be presented prior to employment.
