The Department of Applied Education Science is seeking a Test Developer for the verbal sections of the Swedish Scholastic Aptitude Test (Högskoleprovet). The position is a full-time (100%) fixed-term contract for 12 months, starting September 1st or as agreed. The application deadline is 2026-06-08
Description
The Swedish Scholastic Aptitude Test consists of several sub-tests measuring different types of skills relevant to academic studies. The position primarily involves developing the sub-tests that measure proficiency in the Swedish language, although work on other sub-tests may also be included. The main duties include constructing and reviewing new test items and associated test materials. The role also involves tasks related to the research and evaluation activities of the testing organization.
Responsibilities
The main responsibilities of the Test Developer include:
- Constructing, processing, and reviewing test items and related test materials
- Analyzing and monitoring test results
- Development and evaluation work
- Performing administrative tasks associated with the work
As the work requires an understanding of how tests and test items are constructed, as well as how they can be empirically tested and statistically evaluated, participation in competence development and method development in this area is a natural part of the job. Involvement in scientific work related to test development, as well as contributing to the documentation and reporting of studies and results, is also included.
Qualifications
We are looking for you who have a master's degree (advanced level) with a focus on the Swedish language, preferably combined with a subject in the behavioral sciences, such as psychology or cognitive science. The work requires excellent proficiency in Swedish and the ability to express yourself well in both speech and writing. You should also be accustomed to reading and comprehending academic texts in English. Knowledge of test theory, test methodology, and quantitative analysis methods is meritorious.
As a Test Developer, you should be motivated by analytical and problem-solving work and have a distinct knowledge-seeking approach. A central part of the duties involves critically reviewing test items and test-related materials, which requires precision, lack of pretension, and the ability to receive and use feedback constructively.
The work involves both independent work with personal responsibility and teamwork, requiring good collaboration skills. Since workload and tasks may vary over time, you must also be able to handle temporary peaks in work and adapt to changing conditions. Personal suitability will be given great weight.
Conditions
The position is a full-time (100%) fixed-term contract for 12 months, starting September 1st or as agreed. The workplace is in Umeå, and the work cannot be performed remotely; it requires physical presence at the workplace.
Application
Attached to the application should be:
- CV
- Cover letter
- Degree certificate/certificate/transcript from post-secondary education
- Other merit documents you wish to submit
During the selection process, a work sample test may be required.
