The employment is within the subject of biomedicine, which at the University College of Skövde is defined as the study of human normal biology and biology in disease, as well as the prophylaxis, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases. The subject of biomedicine includes the scientific areas of anatomy, physiology, genetics, microbiology, immunology, pharmacology, and pathology.

Your Role

The position of Assistant Lecturer is a qualifying appointment aimed at leading to promotion to a permanent position as Lecturer. The Assistant Lecturer is given the opportunity to develop an independent research profile and to qualify both scientifically and pedagogically to meet the eligibility requirements for the position of Lecturer. The employment is fixed-term for four years and covers full-time work. An individually adapted development plan is established to support the Assistant Lecturer's qualification. During the employment period, the Assistant Lecturer may apply for promotion to Lecturer when the eligibility requirements are met. Upon approved promotion, the employment will become permanent.

You will be employed at the Division of Biomedicine and will be part of the biomedical research group Translational Medicine (TRIM), which conducts research with a biomedical foundation and develops solutions to clinical questions. TRIM is part of Digital HEAlth Research (DHEAR), an interdisciplinary research environment at the Department of Health Sciences. Within DHEAR, competencies from different research groups meet around issues concerning health, digitalization, and sustainable societal development. At the Division of Biomedicine, education at undergraduate and advanced levels is conducted in our international biomedicine programs. The division is also responsible for courses within several of the University College's healthcare education programs.

The main tasks within the employment are:

  • Teaching in biomedicine at undergraduate and advanced levels.
  • Conducting research in biomedicine with the aim of strengthening and establishing interdisciplinary collaboration within TRIM, DHEAR, and/or other parts of the University College.
  • Collaboration with the surrounding society.

Additional tasks may be included in the employment.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A completed PhD in biomedicine or related fields, or achieved equivalent scientific competence. Preference is given to those who have completed a PhD or achieved equivalent competence no more than five years before the application deadline. (Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 4, Section 4a)
  • Documented ability to independently plan and organize work.
  • Documented good teamwork skills and ability to establish contacts and networks.
  • Documented good ability to express oneself orally and in writing in both Swedish and English.

We will also evaluate the following criteria for employment:

Of highest importance are:

  • The degree of skill required for eligibility.
  • Documented good knowledge of genetics and biomedical laboratory methods, as well as analysis of large datasets.
  • Experience in teaching biomedicine, preferably in genetics, advanced data analysis, and laboratory teaching, as well as supervision of thesis students.
  • Experience in biomedical research.

Of next highest importance are:

  • Documented ability to apply for external research funding.
  • Documented good knowledge of tumor and/or stem cell biology.
  • Documented good administrative skills.

Also of importance is:

  • Having completed higher education pedagogy training of at least 15 higher education credits, or holding a certificate of training in higher education pedagogy equivalent to 15 higher education credits, or having acquired equivalent knowledge in another way.

Form of Employment: The employment is fixed-term for four years. An Assistant Lecturer has the right during the employment period to apply for promotion to Lecturer when they have achieved such eligibility. Upon approved promotion, the employment will become permanent.
