The Department of Physics at the University of Gothenburg is located in central Gothenburg and has approximately 100 employees. Communication opportunities are good, both nationally and internationally. The research is focused on the subjects of atomic and molecular physics, condensed matter physics, spintronics, complex systems, and biophysics, and is conducted in an international environment with extensive national and international collaborations. The education at the department includes teaching at bachelor's and master's programs in physics, physics in teacher education programs, and physics courses aimed at the general public. The Gothenburg Physics Centre, a close collaboration with three other departments within the Faculty of Science and Chalmers University of Technology, creates an innovative environment for all the department's researchers and students. Subject Description

The Department of Physics has a long-term commitment to the subject teacher program at the University of Gothenburg. Teacher education is undergoing a transformation, and the need for teachers in science subjects is extensive. The department's mission includes participating in several of the teacher education programs for which the University of Gothenburg has degree-awarding authority. The Department of Physics also conducts continuing education for teachers and preschool teachers in collaboration with both the Swedish National Agency for Education and the Faculty of Education and Sociology at the University of Gothenburg.

The department's mission includes both teaching and participation in various collegial contexts, such as program councils where the university's departments participating in teacher education meet. Within the framework of the teacher education mission, the Department of Physics also participates in relevant forums for teacher education within the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

The department is also engaged in the university-wide doctoral school CUL (Centre for Educational Sciences and Teacher Research), where supervision of doctoral students contributes to guaranteeing a scientific foundation for the department's pedagogical development.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities are focused on the department's teaching activities in physics and technology, primarily within teacher education, pedagogical development, quality assurance of education, teaching administration, and the department's collaboration with the Faculty of Education and Sociology. This includes administrative responsibility, contacts with other units involved in teacher education, both within and outside the University of Gothenburg, responsibility for the practice-based education (VFU) of subject teacher students, and supervision of subject teacher students' independent work. Teaching, development of the department's laboratory activities, and course development within both regular program courses and continuing education courses. The teaching need, in addition to the above, also includes CAD, artificial intelligence, and Python, quantum physics for teachers, subject courses for teachers grades 4-6, astronomy, electricity, and control and regulation technology, as well as collaboration assignments aimed at the general public and the school world. Some time for own research is included in the responsibilities.

Qualifications

Qualification for employment as a teacher is regulated in the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 4 and the University of Gothenburg's appointment regulations.

Eligible for appointment as a university lecturer in non-artistic activities is someone who has demonstrated pedagogical skill and has obtained a doctoral degree or has equivalent scientific competence or other skill that is significant with regard to the subject content of the appointment and the tasks to be included in the appointment.

For qualification for this appointment, the applicant must further have a teacher's degree or teacher certification for teaching physics or equivalent education aimed at upper secondary school or grades 7-9 of compulsory school. Furthermore, the applicant must have higher education pedagogical competence through documented training in higher education pedagogical courses.

It is also a requirement that the applicant can communicate fluently in Swedish, both in writing and orally.
