The advertised position is organized under the rescue services department, which carries out the rescue operations we are responsible for according to the Act on Protection against Accidental Disasters (LSO). The department has a full-time force in Karlstad and rescue teams on standby in Deje, Forshaga, Grums, Hammarö, Kil, Molkom, Munkfors, Vålberg, and Väse. Additionally, there is a combined RIB station/rescue team in Högboda and a rescue team in Värmskog.

Description

Do you want to help other people and make a significant contribution where you live? We are currently looking for part-time firefighters for our fire stations in Deje, Forshaga, Grums, Hammarö, Högboda, Kil, Molkom, Munkfors, Vålberg, Värmskog, and Väse. As a part-time firefighter, you ensure that people in your area can continue to live with the security of knowing help is nearby. Together with your group and colleagues at the fire station, you contribute to a safer and more secure society.

Part-time firefighters do not have the rescue service as their primary employer but are ready to respond when the alarm sounds. They form the backbone of Swedish rescue services and society's protection against disasters. To work as a part-time firefighter, your primary occupation (work or school) must approve that you can leave with short notice when you are on standby. Therefore, it is wise to discuss this with your employer before or during your application.

The standby schedule varies between different stations but includes seven days of standby per month. During your standby period, you are expected to be able to arrive at your fire station within five minutes of an alarm. The average compensation for a part-time firefighter is approximately 80,000–100,000 SEK per year (assuming you are on duty).

Job Responsibilities

The work as a part-time firefighter involves responding to alarms when on standby, where the most common alarms are fires or traffic accidents. It can also involve IVPA alarms (waiting for an ambulance), drowning incidents, or releases of hazardous substances.

Rescue operations also involve meeting and supporting people in various need of help. You should have good teamwork skills and enjoy working in a group to solve assignments and make quick decisions together.

As a part-time firefighter, you will also have time to train together with your colleagues, which is an important preparation for you to be well-rehearsed and ready to solve future tasks in a safe and efficient manner. Each individual becomes an important component of the group.

Qualifications

Basic training is required and is provided by us after you have been offered a position. To be offered a position, a successful application test and a passed health examination are required, which are also arranged by us.

To be considered for the position, we see that you have:

• The ability to arrive at your fire station within five minutes when on standby. You should live or work in the area where you are applying for the position.
• A Category B driver's license is required.
• A Category C driver's license is considered an asset, and training can be covered by us during your employment if needed.
