Are you a priest with a special interest in pastoral care? Do you have experience in meeting and supporting people in crisis?

As an on-call priest, you find yourself in the Garden of Gethsemane with Jesus while everyone else has fallen asleep. You will meet people in all situations of life and convey hope and support when it is needed most. Last year, the Diocese of Härnösand, together with other dioceses, received over ninety thousand calls for pastoral care via telephone, letter, and chat. Trust in us is high, and the need for us as pastoral caregivers is increasing. The Diocese of Härnösand is now seeking an on-call priest for approximately 20% of a full-time position.

Responsibilities

As an on-call priest in the Diocese of Härnösand, you are an important part of the team that meets people every night who contact us in need of pastoral care. The on-call priest is reached through three communication channels: telephone, chat, and digital letter. Your responsibilities include, among other things:

• Serving in all channels, but primarily via telephone according to a fixed schedule
• Participating in the diocese's supervision and network meetings, both physically and digitally
• Participating in further education and national gatherings

Qualifications

The role of on-call priest is a qualified pastoral care assignment, and we are looking for you who have good empathetic skills and convey calm and stability through your approach. You are loyal to the assignment and follow the guidelines and policies on which the operation is based. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

To be eligible for the assignment, you need to:

• Be an ordained priest in the Church of Sweden
• Have good knowledge of the Church of Sweden's faith, confession, and doctrine
• Have good knowledge of the Swedish language, both spoken and written
• Have a special interest in and experience of pastoral care

We consider it meritorious if you have:

• Completed further education in pastoral care
• Education and/or experience in crisis intervention and grief support work

About the Assignment

• The assignment is performed for a fixed compensation according to a given schedule with three-hour shifts between 21:00–06:15, thus including evening, night, and early morning hours. The assignment is for one year at a time and can be extended if necessary, by agreement.
• The work is performed in your own home or in another suitable location for the assignment.
• The assignment can be in the range of 15–20 percent of full-time.
