Expert Python Developer for a Client in the Pharmaceutical Industry

WeQube is currently seeking, on behalf of a client, a highly experienced Python Developer for a long-term consulting assignment within the pharmaceutical industry. This role is ideal for someone with deep technical expertise in backend development, modern Python environments, and cloud-based solutions, who thrives working with both complex legacy systems and new development.

About the Assignment

As an Expert Python Developer, you will play a leading role in the development, modernization, and maintenance of mission-critical systems in production environments. The assignment involves both further development of existing solutions and the creation of new functionality, adhering to high standards of quality, structure, and reliability.

You are expected to work independently, take technical ownership, and contribute a long-term perspective to the development work. Experience in regulated industries is an asset.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

• Development and maintenance of backend solutions in Python
• Further development and refactoring of existing applications in production
• Development of REST APIs using FastAPI or equivalent ASGI frameworks
• Work with databases, schema management, and migrations in PostgreSQL and Alembic
• Development and management of cloud-based infrastructure in AWS
• Work with Terraform, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions
• High-level testing with pytest and behavior-driven development (BDD)
• Contribute to modern architecture, domain-driven design, and structured codebases

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has:

• At least 10 years of experience in backend development
• Extensive experience with Python in production environments
• Deep knowledge of modern Python, e.g., type hints, dataclasses, async/await, decorators, and modern packaging solutions
• Experience with SQLAlchemy 2.0
• Extensive knowledge of PostgreSQL, database schemas, indexing, transactions, and optimization
• Good understanding of relational databases and database theory
• Experience with database migrations using Alembic in production environments
• Experience with FastAPI or equivalent frameworks
• Documented experience in modernizing legacy applications while in active operation
• Good experience with AWS, specifically ECS Fargate, ECR, ALB, S3, IAM, and SSM Parameter Store
• Experience with Terraform
• Good experience with Docker
• Experience with test automation using pytest
• Experience with BDD and Given/When/Then structure
• Familiarity with the uv package manager from Astral
• Experience with Domain-Driven Design (DDD)
• Experience with Pydantic v2
• Experience with CI/CD using GitHub Actions

Language

Very good skills in English, both spoken and written.
