The Faculty of Technology has a broad operation across nine different departments, where Linnaeus University conducts education and research in technical subjects. The Department of Computer Science and Media Technology is responsible for a large number of degree programmes at basic and advanced levels in computer science, software engineering, and media technology. The department has strong connections to other departments at Linnaeus University through interdisciplinary education and research.

Job Description:

In the role of Research Engineer, you will have a broad and varied role with touchpoints in several technical areas. You will work closely with our lab environments, primarily the IoT lab, and actively contribute to inspiring and developing technical solutions together with companies and other external actors. When needed, you will also support teaching staff and students at the departments of Computer Science and Media Technology as well as Informatics.

Qualifications:

We are looking for someone with a degree as a Master of Science in Engineering (or equivalent) in Software Engineering/Computer Engineering or similar education.

You must have:

• experience in software development,
• practical experience of IoT development, from edge devices to cloud integration. Including work with microcontrollers, sensors, and gateways.
• experience of various communication protocols such as MQTT, CoAP, HTTP/REST, or LoRaWAN, as well as an understanding of TCP/IP and network architecture.
• documented problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot the entire chain, from hardware and firmware to backend and integrations,
• an open and curious attitude towards new technology and a willingness to continuously develop your competence.

Merits: We are looking for someone who is self-reliant and initiative-taking, with the ability to identify and solve problems and work in a structured and methodical way. Experience in hardware or software development is a merit, especially if you have experience with Python and C++.

Since the systems being developed have several clients and users, close collaboration with various actors is required, among others to gain access to relevant data. We are therefore looking for someone with experience of working in projects with several different stakeholders.

A large part of your work will be done in collaboration with several different people. You therefore need to find it easy to collaborate and be able to communicate fluently orally and in writing in both Swedish and English.

Terms of Employment:

Number of positions: 1-2 persons

Employment and scope: Permanent employment, full-time

Start date: Start date according to agreement. In normal cases, a probationary period applies.

Location (permanent): Kalmar or Växjö. Since Linnaeus University is located in both Växjö and Kalmar, travel between the locations may occur. Travel within the regions of Kronoberg and Kalmar may also occur.
