Responsibilities

As a camp counselor at Akka's campsite, you are responsible for children aged 9–13 and for planning and leading activities for this group. Our profile is clearly focused on outdoor life and outdoor pedagogy. Participants stay in tents for the entire duration of their visit, and the majority of activities take place outdoors.

Camp implies 24/7 operations for both participants and counselors. The children sleep in tents on the site, while the staff lives in houses near the camp. Once per period, you will have overnight duty, which means staying in a tent to be close to the children during the night. Therefore, you must feel comfortable being away from home for at least six weeks.

In this role, you are responsible for creating a safe and structured daily routine, leading activities, and being a present adult who guides the children in their development and decision-making.

Who are we looking for?

A large part of the assignment involves meeting the children's needs and being a stable support in their daily lives. To succeed in this role, you need to be confident in yourself and your leadership, able to set clear boundaries while building good relationships. You should feel comfortable discussing life issues and serving as a role model.

The work shares many similarities with the school world, where structure and boundary-setting are combined with relationship-building to create a safe climate.

Experience

Applicants should have a strong interest in outdoor life or experience in outdoor pedagogy, as most of the activities take place outdoors. During the summer, we organize hikes, raft building, climbing, paddling, swimming, and cooking over an open fire. We also offer creative activities such as theater, dance, and singing. Disco, football tournaments, and themed days are also part of the program.

Experience working with children in the intermediate school age group is an asset, as is experience from primary school or after-school activities.

About the Company

Employment Conditions

The position is a full-time job. You must be able to attend our training days on-site at the campsite in Värmland from April 30 - May 3, and June 6-11. During the summer, you need to be able to work, and thus be away from home for at least six weeks during the period June 12 - August 16.
