Care for Persons with Disabilities

In Region Gotland, you can develop and grow, both as an individual and together with others. When you work with us, you contribute to making Gotland an even better place for people in all walks of life. We make each other better.

In the care for persons with disabilities, we support children and young people with various types of disabilities and work to facilitate everyday life through practical support and care.

The operation also aims to provide relief to caregivers and families. Our goal is to ensure that every child has the conditions for as independent a life as possible. The work involves meeting children with neuropsychiatric, intellectual, and often physical variations.

We are now looking for two new employees for day, evening, and weekend work, as well as one employee for an awake night position at our short-term accommodation Lillkorpen in Visby. You will be part of a team consisting of approximately ten employees.

Your Responsibilities

In the role of support assistant/residential assistant, your tasks include:

  • Responsible for ensuring that the children's needs, which are often extensive, are met according to decisions made under LSS (Act on Support and Service for Certain Disabled Persons).
  • Having a good ability and knowledge to see and meet each child's individual needs, including the need for regular medical support.
  • Providing good care and working to create a safe, stable, and trusting relationship with the children.
  • Maintaining good and professional contact with parents and other partners.
  • Play and various activities with the children are a natural and important part of the work.
  • Perform delegated medical tasks from a nurse.
  • Certain tasks may involve lifting, which requires good physical health.

The work includes day, evening, and weekend shifts as well as sleeping on-call. If necessary, occasional awake nights may occur.

Who Are You?

For the position of support assistant, a high school education with a focus on care and social services, children and leisure, or being a trained social pedagogue and/or personal assistant is required.

For the position of residential assistant, a high school education is advantageous.

Previous experience in caring for persons with disabilities, preferably children and youth, is advantageous. We also view positively experience with pedagogical methods, sign language communication, and the use of visual support. Experience with challenging behaviors as well as knowledge of LSS and the Convention on the Rights of the Child is also advantageous. A B driver's license is also desirable for day/evening/weekend positions.

We are looking for someone who enjoys working with children and treats them with respect and care. You are flexible, self-driven, and can take your own initiatives, while also enjoying collaborating and contributing to a team. You are stable, clear in your approach, and have great patience – and you know when it's time to listen, support, or lead.

You have pedagogical insight and enjoy planning and conducting activities that spark curiosity and promote children's development. You meet children in a low-arousal and professional manner and see each child's unique needs and opportunities.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability according to the competencies described above.

As part of our recruitment process, you will need to request two extracts from the Police register:

  1. Criminal record for children with disabilities (https://polisen.se/tjanster-tillstand/belastningsregistret/barn-med-funktionsnedsattning/)
  2. Check your information in the criminal record (https://polisen.se/tjanster-tillstand/belastningsregistret/kontrollera-dina-uppgifter-i-belastningsregistret/)

As processing times may vary, we recommend ordering the extracts in good time.

Interviews are conducted on an ongoing basis, so we warmly welcome your application today!
