Expanding Our Nursing Staffing

We are now expanding our nursing staffing for the forensic psychiatric care units at Helix and Huddinge hospitals.

Forensic Psychiatry Care Stockholm provides forensic psychiatric care for patients from all over Stockholm County and has approximately 550 employees distributed across two sections.

The clinic has 15 care units and 2 outpatient clinics. The operations are spread across three facilities located at Helix (behind Huddinge hospital), Karolinska University Hospital in Huddinge, and Löwenströmska Hospital in Upplands Väsby.

Forensic Psychiatry Care Stockholm is now making a significant investment to increase the number of nursing positions to ensure a good and sustainable work environment, maintain high quality in care, patient safety, and security work. We are expanding by a total of 6 nursing positions distributed across 3 units, which will provide excellent conditions for a sustainable and developing work climate.

We are looking for nurses for our care units in security classes 2 and 3. The position as a nurse involves working on a schedule that includes day, evening, and weekend shifts. The units consist of two departments located at Helix and Huddinge hospitals, with 14 to 15 patients in each department.

Our departments primarily receive patients who have been referred for care according to the Forensic Psychiatric Care Act (LRV). Many of the patients we care for have serious mental health issues. A significant proportion of the patients also have substance abuse problems.

The goal of forensic psychiatric care is to habilitate and rehabilitate patients to a life in society with increased psychosocial function and reduced risk of reoffending. We aim to contribute to a safe and sustainable discharge to minimize the risk of relapse.

Working in a care unit provides the opportunity to work long-term with patients alongside a professional team of caregivers and nursing colleagues. In addition to nurses and caregivers, a unit manager and an assistant unit manager work closely with the operations. One or more senior physicians are attached to the unit, responsible for the patients. Social workers, psychologists, and occupational therapists are also important resources in the work. All care staff actively participate in the care work performed.

Job Responsibilities

As a nurse, you have a clear leadership role in the department with primary responsibility for care planning together with caregivers.

Department staff have lunch breaks in peace, breaks with colleagues to exchange thoughts and ideas, regular training sessions, etc. We have allocated time for meetings such as nursing meetings, staff meetings, and departmental meetings.

More nurses in the departments provide more time to develop the quality of care together with others, both within the unit and across the clinic. Some clinic assignments may be included in the position as a nurse.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who are a licensed nurse. Specialist training in psychiatry, previous experience in psychiatric care, addiction treatment, and/or criminal care is an advantage.

In your interactions with patients, you are always professional, attentive, and non-judgmental. You are helpful but can also be clear and set boundaries when required. You have excellent collaboration skills and enjoy working in a team while also being able to work independently and lead others.
