From July 1, 2021, basic training (BT) became mandatory as a standalone first part of specialist training (ST) for licensed physicians who have not completed Swedish general training (AT).

Hallands sjukhus Halmstad is now offering two positions starting in August 2026.

About the workplace

Hallands sjukhus includes the acute hospitals in Halmstad and Varberg. We also conduct planned operations in Kungsbacka and Falkenberg. We have approximately 3,500 employees working to provide the best possible care to the residents of Halland, and we offer specialist care with high quality and good accessibility. About BT in Region Halland

The work as a BT physician mainly consists of clinical work with continuous supervision and recurring structured competence assessments. Basic training in Halland will last for 12 months but can be extended if necessary. We do not apply any credits in our BT, as we prioritize maintaining high educational quality.

You will have mandatory placements in acute care and primary care. In addition to these, you will also have a placement in psychiatry.

As a BT physician, you will have a main supervisor who follows you throughout the training period, as well as a clinical supervisor at each placement.

Qualifications

To apply for BT with us, you must have a medical degree from within or outside the EU/EES and hold a Swedish medical license. Furthermore, you must have Swedish citizenship, EU citizenship, or a permanent residence or work permit.

You must have very good knowledge of the Swedish language, equivalent to native language or at least level C1 according to the Council of Europe's language scale.

You have good medical competence with the ability to meet both patients and colleagues in an equal and professional manner. You thrive in interdisciplinary collaboration and have developed communication skills with the ability to adapt this to your counterpart. Your willingness to develop and learn is central to your way of working.

In this recruitment, we will make a comprehensive assessment of your application, such as previous clinical work experience in Swedish healthcare, demonstrated interest, and voluntary assignments are valued as merits. Great importance will be placed on personal suitability.

You submit your application with a written CV and a personal letter. Also attach at least two references, of which at least one is a previous manager or medically responsible. You can also attach supplementary files in the form of recommendation letters and evaluations in your application.

On Thursday, April 23, we will contact those who are relevant for an interview. Short digital interviews will be conducted on Tuesday, April 28, and physical interviews in Halmstad will take place on May 4 and 5.
