Teacher / Instructor in Construction Machinery

In the autumn of 2024, we launched the Construction and Civil Engineering program with the vocational track of Construction Machinery Operator. The education has been created together with ME-skolan AB, a subsidiary of the industry and employer organization Maskinentreprenörerna (ME), which is part of the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise. We work together for a high-quality education and to ensure that the school's students have the highest employability possible after completing their education. We are now looking for two more vocational teachers or instructors who want to help continue developing the program during our third academic year.

As a teacher/instructor at Realgymnasiet, you create conditions for learning and guide students based on a given educational concept and the program's educational goals. You plan, implement, and evaluate the teaching. Furthermore, you continuously work to assess goal fulfillment and communicate this to the student together with the mentor. You work with colleagues in teams and in close collaboration with the mentor and student health at the school.

Job Description - The Role of Vocational Teacher

As a teacher/instructor, you work together with other teachers at Realgymnasiet to create conditions for learning. Together with your colleagues, you teach students based on a given educational concept and the program's educational goals. You will primarily work within construction machinery but also with tasks in construction and civil engineering. The work consists of both practical and theoretical elements as well as documentation. You will have educational material developed by ME-skolan as a starting point, which you will process and work with, among other things, in our learning platform Canvas.

Currently, Realgymnasiet in Karlstad offers education within the Natural Resources program with specializations in horse management, animal care, and nature tourism. From the autumn term of 2024, we will also offer the Construction and Civil Engineering program with a focus on Land and Construction, and as the only school in Karlstad, we have the vocational track of Construction Machinery Operator.

We are expanding with two full-time positions. The positions are permanent and start with a 6-month probationary period.

Qualifications

We see that you have several years of experience in the industry, preferably as an operator or in the construction and civil engineering industry. You may have experience as a teacher or instructor, and we also appreciate if you have experience working with apprentices or APL students. It is advantageous if you have a teaching certification.

We are looking for someone who feels confident in the role of teacher and we hope you have good knowledge or the willingness to learn about the school's mission, current curriculum, and other governing documents. You will be assigned a mentor during your introduction. We see that you need to have the ability to plan your teaching and allow students to be involved in the design. As a person, you have faith in students' willingness and ability to succeed, and you constantly seek ways to develop your teaching to give your students the best conditions.

Furthermore, you have the ability to structure and drive your processes forward and you work towards common goals. You have good pedagogical insight as you can adapt your way of conveying your message based on your audience and you are flexible in changing your perspective and approach as needed.

You work well with others and have the ability to relate to them in a responsive and smooth manner. You are outgoing and socially active in professional contexts. You create contacts and maintain relationships with colleagues, our partners, and APL placements. You are passionate about your subject and are eager to use digital resources that contribute to a greater understanding of the developments in the industries our students are training for. You are flexible and welcome new challenges.

We see that you have a B driver's license and preferably access to your own car as you will visit students at their APL placements.
