Workplace Description

The Department of Physics at Lund University operates the world-leading semiconductor nanofabrication facility, Lund Nano Lab (LNL).

LNL is part of Myfab – the national infrastructure for micro and nano manufacturing. It is a key infrastructure for Nanolund, the Center for Nanoscience at Lund University, which is world-leading in materials science and applications of nanostructured semiconductors. LNL has an annual turnover of approximately 45 million SEK and consists of about 1200 m2 of laboratory space, of which 600 m2 is designated as semiconductor cleanroom. The lab hosts around 80 tools that perform deposition, growth, etching, and patterning of semiconductor materials. There are also several specialized instruments for characterization and measurement. The lab has over 140 active users from academia and industry. The LNL team includes 13 highly qualified researchers, engineers, and technicians focused on keeping the facility and equipment available and providing service to all users so they can conduct their research.

Job Responsibilities

As an assistant, your tasks may vary and should provide insight into the academic world at the faculty where you are studying.

Lund Nano Lab is now seeking assistants who can help with the operation of the lab and assist researchers using the lab. Job responsibilities include:

• Particle measurement
• Inspection of showers and eye showers
• Baseline/control of basic data on machines
• Handling of cleanroom clothing
• Emptying and refilling cleanroom dishwashers
• Handling of consumables
• Assisting users
• Other laboratory and technical tasks as needed

Qualifications

Eligible for employment as an assistant is someone who is admitted to education at the undergraduate or graduate level at the faculty (or a related subject for the joint institutions). The degree must not have been completed.

Requirements for the position are:

• Admitted to a natural science or engineering program
• Very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written
• Self-driven
• Good teamwork skills
• Good ability to collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds

Desirable qualifications for the position include:

• Experience working in a cleanroom ISO class 5
• Experience working in a university environment

Other Information

We are currently seeking 4 assistants. The positions are temporary for one year and are covered by the working time agreement “Flexible working hours agreement for T/A staff”. The extent may vary between 10–25% of full-time according to agreement, with start dates as follows:

• Start date 2026-05-01 (1 position)
• Start date 2026-10-01 (3 positions)

The employment must not negatively affect the assistant's studies and must not be combined with other employment. Regulations regarding educational employment as an assistant can be found in the Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 2017:284), Chapter 5, Sections 8-12. An assistant position may be a maximum of 50% of full-time and temporary for a maximum of one year, totaling a maximum of three years.
