Do you want to help us in ordinary housing to give our Finnish-speaking elderly the opportunity to preserve and develop their culture and mother tongue in their later years?
Södertälje Municipality is part of a Finnish administrative area, which according to the Minority Act means that the municipality has a special responsibility to protect and promote the Swedish-Finnish minority. To strengthen this mission in ordinary housing, we want to hire a Finnish-speaking nursing assistant/caregiver with a commitment to elderly care.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about the Finnish language and culture - and who wants to combine a targeted mission for our Finnish-speaking clients with responsibility for a number of home care recipients in ordinary housing.
Job Responsibilities
In your role, you will work independently and will be located at various units to meet the needs of our Finnish-speaking home care recipients. The position primarily involves working as a Finnish-speaking nursing assistant within the framework of the Finnish administrative area, but you will also perform home care services for a number of recipients for whom you have a special care responsibility. All services performed within the framework of home care are based on assistance decisions, which means that the help is always needs-based and based on decisions from the assistance officer. This ensures that each service is performed according to the individual's needs.
Your main task is to help our home care recipients create a meaningful everyday life where you assist the elderly in maintaining and developing their culture. You perform the service in Finnish and immerse yourself in Finnish culture and tradition through language, food, and activities with the elderly based on their needs and wishes. An important part of the mission is that you, as a nursing assistant/caregiver, should be a driving force for our citizens to be able to live at home as long as possible and maintain their abilities and strengths. The aim is for the citizen to partake in their culture, express themselves in their mother tongue, and have their needs met through, for example, assistance during medical visits, translation of decisions, help with personal care, etc. As an employee, you are a guest when you go to the home of the home care recipient and should support the individual in managing their daily life based on their abilities and needs.
Who are you?
You are engaged and have a knack for creating good social contacts. You are unpretentious and have a good view of people. You are structured, responsible, and good at motivating others. You are calm and stable and can maintain composure in stressful situations. You should have a professional approach and always focus on the home care recipient and their needs.
Requirements:
- Upper secondary education in health and care (nursing assistant with protected professional title) or equivalent education deemed equivalent by the employer
- Experience from work in home care or elderly care
- Very good knowledge of Finnish and Swedish - both spoken and written
- B driver's license
- Knowledge of Finnish culture and tradition
Meritorious:
- Documented knowledge of natural aging
- Documented knowledge in clarifying pedagogy and low-arousal approach
- Experience in MI (motivational interviewing)
- Experience and knowledge in care and support coordination
- Experience working in the field of neuropsychiatry
- Knowledge of addiction theory
- Further education in psychiatry
- Previous experience working with Finnish culture and/or language

In ordinary housing, we have a total of 12 home care units, housing support, day activities, meeting places, and our preventive units. Working hours are scheduled and take place during the day but may also occur on weekends if necessary.
