Operations Technician at Property, Umeå Municipality

Do you want to work in a growing municipality where your commitment and skills truly make a difference? As an operations technician at Property, Umeå Municipality, you will be a key person in creating well-functioning, safe, and sustainable environments for thousands of people – every day.

Here you will have the chance to use your technical knowledge to improve and develop properties that are crucial for our welfare, such as schools, care facilities, and cultural and recreational facilities.

Property represents Umeå Municipality as a property owner and is tasked with acquiring, managing, and disposing of premises for municipal operations. Together, we manage over one million square meters. Within Property, there are four management areas: Building and Property Technology, Property Management, Administration and Strategic Support, and Property Operations. We are a broad organization with several different management areas, where you will have the opportunity to develop and grow as a person.

Property Operations is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and supervision as well as energy measures in the municipality's properties and is divided into three management areas. In each area, there are area managers, operations coordinators, operations technicians, property caretakers, and electricians. Within Property Operations, there are also employees who work with land and green space maintenance, energy, ventilation, electricity and electrical safety, locks and alarms, and technical administration. Property Operations consists of about 80 employees.

About the Role

As an operations technician, you will take care of the supervision, maintenance, and development of technical installations in a number of properties for which you are responsible. You will contribute to preventive and corrective maintenance, work on energy optimization, and ensure that our premises maintain high safety and quality. You will follow up on regulatory requirements, coordinate efforts with contractors, and propose improvements that enhance value for both operations and society.

Your tasks include, among others:

  • Optimization of technical systems for better and sustainable property operations.
  • Monitoring and actions for energy and environmental improvements.
  • Ensuring fire protection and regulatory compliance in our properties.
  • Participating in inspections, energy investigations, and projects related to new construction and renovations.
  • Administering systems and collaborating with colleagues and external parties to find the best solutions.

About You

You who are applying have:

  • Education from a qualified vocational training (KY) as an operations technician with a focus on property or a university degree as an operations technician with a focus on property or equivalent knowledge.
  • Experience working in the property sector with operational-related issues, preferably as an operations technician or property technician with similar tasks.
  • Good knowledge of heating and ventilation as well as control and regulation systems.
  • We would like you to have experience with locks and access control as well as sprinkler and fire alarm systems. General electrical authorization is advantageous but not a requirement.
  • Good computer skills.
  • A valid driver's license (B) to be able to travel to and from workplaces.
  • Fluent in Swedish, both spoken and written, as well as basic knowledge of English.

Since the position involves a lot of contact with customers and contractors, you need to be service-oriented and attentive with good communication skills. You will often have great freedom to solve various challenges, and therefore we believe that you thrive in working responsibly and independently. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

As the position involves access to the municipality's premises, technical installations, and work in environments where children and young people are present, a suitability check will be conducted. Therefore, a criminal record extract from the Police's criminal and suspicion register will be requested prior to employment, in accordance with applicable legislation.
