Specialist Physician in Clinical Microbiology

Laboratory Medicine is a regional organization with operations in Lycksele, Skellefteå, and Umeå, comprising approximately 520 employees. The operations include clinical microbiology, healthcare hygiene, clinical genetics, clinical immunology and transfusion medicine, clinical chemistry, clinical pathology, biobanking, and tissue establishment. Through agreements, Laboratory Medicine has total responsibility for clinical pathology in Östersund and also medical responsibility for immunology and transfusion medicine, clinical chemistry, and clinical microbiology. Healthcare Hygiene Västerbotten currently also provides Region Jämtland Härjedalen with hygiene physician expertise through a collaboration agreement. The operations are accredited.

Clinical microbiology in Umeå conducts a broad microbiological diagnostics in bacteriology, virology, mycology, and parasitology. The catchment area is Region Västerbotten, but we also receive samples from the northern region and other parts of Sweden as we are the national reference laboratory for tularemia, Sindbis, and hantavirus.

The laboratory provides decision support for treating and preventing infections. We actively work to develop and improve methods and practices to create a competitive operation to meet the future healthcare needs. We are consultants for the healthcare system and regularly participate in clinical rounds and contribute to the education of physicians. The collaboration with Umeå University is close, and active research is ongoing at the laboratory. Work is also underway to develop decentralized microbiological diagnostics in the region. The department has 85 dedicated employees. We are very keen to work in a positive spirit with a focus on the best interests of the patient.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As a specialist physician with us, you contribute knowledge and engagement that makes people feel secure.

The role includes diagnostics in bacteriology, virology, mycology, and parasitology. Our diagnostic methods include culture, serology, and a comprehensive molecular analysis operation.

In addition to your work within the diagnostic operations, you will work on method development and various types of change and quality work. Teaching, supervision, and rounds are also part of the job, as well as on-call duties.

QUALIFICATIONS

You must be a licensed physician with specialist competence in clinical microbiology. We place great emphasis on personal suitability. We require good knowledge of the Swedish language in speech and writing corresponding to level C1. Good knowledge of English and basic computer skills are advantageous.

Verification of medical license and all relevant specialist certificates via the National Board of Health and Welfare (HOSP) will occur once the application has been received.
