Occupational Therapists for the Role of Vision Educator Needed at the Vision Center & Deafblind Team!

About the Position

We are looking for two vision educators, one for a shared position between the Stockholm Vision Center and the Deafblind Team, and one position solely for the Stockholm Vision Center.

Both are part of Habilitation and Health, SLSO.

At the Stockholm Vision Center, approximately 60 people work with rehabilitation and habilitation for individuals with visual impairments or blindness. The Vision Center covers the entire Stockholm area, and the Deafblind Team is a regional team. The Vision Center is organized into a child and youth unit and an adult unit, and is located in modern premises centrally at Fridhemsplan. The Vision Center employs vision educators, optometrists, social workers, psychologists, physiotherapists, IT educators, Braille teachers, medical secretaries, and more.

The Deafblind Team is a cross-professional team that provides advice and support to children, adolescents, and adults with combined vision and hearing impairments, deafblindness, and to the network surrounding these individuals. The team consists of 8 practitioners, including psychologists, social workers, hearing educators, vision educators, and communication educators, as well as consulting ophthalmologists and otolaryngologists. The team's mission is to facilitate the lives of the individuals they meet and thereby create conditions for greater participation in society. The team is located at Sabbatsberg Hospital and serves the entire Stockholm County.

The Vision Center & Deafblind Team are seeking an occupational therapist/vision educator with an interest in vision rehabilitation and habilitation. As a vision educator at the vision center, you will work with assessing the needs of individuals with visual impairments, blindness, and combined vision-hearing impairments or deafblindness. Together with the patient, you will establish a care plan based on the Deafblind Team's habilitation program. You will also carry out prescriptions and training of techniques, strategies, and aids. Services are offered individually and/or in groups. Visits primarily occur at the clinics but also in the patient's near or home environment.

Documentation is done in the Take Care journal system. The work includes collaboration with colleagues at the Vision Center and Deafblind Team, with relatives, externally with ophthalmologists, assistive technology centers, and other important actors and care neighbors around the patient.

Qualifications:

  • You are a trained occupational therapist, vision educator, ophthalmic nurse, optometrist, or have other education that the employer deems equivalent.
  • You have a genuine interest in vision rehabilitation and habilitation.
  • You are familiar with the prescription process for assistive devices and are used to documenting in journals.

Sign language, knowledge of Braille, and experience working with individuals with combined vision-hearing impairments or deafblindness are advantageous.

Personal Qualities:

  • You enjoy independent work and can easily adapt to new environments.
  • You have good communication skills in speech and writing and a pedagogical approach.
  • You enjoy working in cross-professional teams.
  • You have a curious attitude and can easily absorb and apply new knowledge in practice.

We would like you to have previous experience in vision habilitation/rehabilitation, optics, or ophthalmology.

  • employees who will have patient contact must undergo a pre-employment health examination, according to applicable directives, which is conducted through occupational health services before employment.
  • in addition to Swedish professional certification, good knowledge of the Swedish language corresponding to level C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) is required. The same requirements are guiding for non-licensed staff with patient contact.
