Job Description

We are looking for a Senior Specialist in Industrial Water Treatment to join our team in Sweden. We are currently located in Solna, Gothenburg, Linköping, Falun, Karlstad, and Härnösand/Sundsvall. We are now seeking additions to primarily one of these locations. In this role, you will participate in our work to design, implement, and optimize solutions for industrial water treatment for our clients across various industrial sectors.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Developing and driving technically complex solutions for industrial water treatment from concept to completion, including raw water treatment, wastewater treatment, water-saving measures, and sludge management.
  • Designing and optimizing water treatment systems to meet specific customer needs and expectations.
  • Conducting laboratory tests on wastewater regarding microbiological and chemical content and properties, as well as testing potential purification effects using various methods.
  • Analyzing water quality data from customers and recommending appropriate treatment methods.
  • Ensuring compliance with national and EU regulations and standards for water treatment.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving issues in existing treatment facilities.
  • Preparing technical reports and delivering presentations for clients and stakeholders.
  • Keeping up to date with the latest advancements in water treatment technology and best practices.
  • Collaborating with colleagues within AFRY in Sweden and globally to ensure our projects are efficient and successful.
  • Acting as a mentor and supporting junior colleagues with technical expertise and mentorship.
  • Conducting site evaluations and feasibility studies for new water treatment installations.
  • Building and nurturing long-term customer relationships.
  • Participating in relevant networks and conferences.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, or other relevant education.
  • At least 8 years of experience in industrial water treatment within, for example, the chemical, biochemical, or petrochemical industries, mining and metallurgy, or the pulp and paper industry.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with tailored messages to different target groups (both in Swedish and English).
  • Enjoy working in cross-functional and international teams with both internal and external colleagues.
  • Strong ability to collaborate and build working relationships with colleagues and clients.

The following skills/attributes are desirable:

  • Experience with biological treatment technologies (activated sludge, MBBR, anaerobic, MBR, etc.), membrane processes (UF, NF, MF, RO), ion exchange technologies, chemical treatment technologies (precipitation, flocculation), sludge management techniques, etc.
  • Knowledge of water quality analysis, monitoring, and data interpretation.
  • Understanding of how different treatment equipment functions for various treatment needs.
  • Interest in problem-solving and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent project management skills and preferably experience in implementing water treatment projects.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting software.
  • Understanding of water chemistry and microbiology.
  • Knowledge of regulations and standards for water treatment, both local and EU.
  • Familiarity with sustainability practices in water management.
  • Contributing to networking with suppliers of treatment equipment, users of treatment plants, authorities, etc.
  • Willingness to travel to clients in Sweden and abroad for on-site evaluations and project implementations.
