The Department of Earth Sciences has about 75 employees. We offer bachelor's and master's programs in Earth Sciences and Geography, as well as doctoral education with several focuses in Earth Sciences. Our main research themes are "Climate and Climate Change", "Surface Processes", and "The Geosphere", and the department's research strategy focuses on the further development of geosystem science. Job Responsibilities
The Department of Earth Sciences is responsible for Skogaryd Research Station (www.gu.se/geovetenskaper/skogaryd-forskningsstation (http://www.gu.se/geovetenskaper/skogaryd-forskningsstation)), located in Vänersborg Municipality. The station is part of the national infrastructure SITES (www.fieldsites.se (http://www.fieldsites.se)). During the summer of 2026, there is a need for two field assistants at Skogaryd Research Station to maintain ongoing measurement programs. Overnight accommodation is available at the station.
The tasks will vary as needed and may include measurements of greenhouse gas emissions from ecosystems, vegetation surveys, soil and water sampling, installation and maintenance of technical equipment, data processing, and laboratory analysis work. Laboratory tasks may include analysis and handling of plant and soil samples, gas chromatography, carbon and nitrogen analyses, and water analyses. Laboratory work may be included in the tasks to a lesser extent, located at the department's facilities in Gothenburg.
Qualifications
A university degree in environmental science, biology, earth sciences, or a related field. Documented knowledge and/or experience in the specified areas is advantageous. Ability to work in the field in forests and fields and experience with measurements are required. A driver's license (B) is mandatory, as well as access to a personal vehicle. The work requires great accuracy, independence, and initiative. You are expected to have good collaboration skills and a problem-solving attitude.
Employment
Both the period and extent may vary as needed. The employment is a temporary position starting on June 15, 2026, or by agreement, and lasting until August 31, 2026. The extent is full-time or by agreement.
Compensation is provided for travel to Skogaryd.
