The pathology laboratories are part of Clinical Pathology at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. Together, we work to create care of the highest quality – always with the patient in focus. Clinical Pathology Sahlgrenska is responsible for two morgues: Sahlgrenska Hospital and Östra Hospital. This position is primarily located at the morgue at Östra Hospital, but you will closely collaborate with both morgues and our autopsy department.

The position is a permanent employment, starting with a six-month probationary period.

Responsibilities

The work as a morgue attendant is a significant role where you make a difference every day. The role can be both physically and mentally demanding, and you need to feel comfortable with heavy lifting and have a strong sense of hygiene, ethics, and empathy.

As a morgue attendant, you will work with many different tasks. The primary responsibility is to care for and handle the deceased in a respectful and safe manner. In addition, tasks include: registration of referrals, phone contact with relatives and funeral homes, administrative tasks, follow-up work related to coffin placement, and various cleaning tasks that contribute to a good and safe working environment.

You will also be involved in keeping our routines and guidelines up to date, ensuring that operations function as safely and professionally as possible.

The position includes on-call duties during certain evenings and weekends, where you will be responsible for both morgues. We will gladly provide more information about how on-call duties work during an interview.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who preferably has several years of experience working with the handling of the deceased and feels comfortable in this professional role. You enjoy collaborating with many different professional categories and contribute to a good working atmosphere.

In your work, you are positive, flexible, and engaged, with a strong sense of ethics, morals, and respectful interaction.

It is advantageous if you have previous experience from autopsy or morgue operations, or many years of work in the funeral industry. A high school diploma is required for the position. It is also advantageous if you have healthcare education or other relevant educational background.
