Conservation Officer
The County Administrative Board's approximately 300 employees work as the government's representative at the regional level. Our mission is to develop the county and ensure that national political goals are implemented locally. We strive to be an authority free from discrimination and want to harness the qualities that diversity brings to the organization.
The Conservation Unit is the largest of the County Administrative Board's seven units. Here, we work to preserve biodiversity, promote outdoor life, establish and manage nature reserves, maintain our mountain trails, manage our wildlife populations, address reindeer husbandry issues, and conduct supervision and issue permits. Our team includes experts in these areas who are eager to share their knowledge.
We work with respect, professionalism, and openness for the county's residents – together for a sustainable future!
Description
We are now seeking a Conservation Officer to strengthen our function.
The Conservation Unit consists of four functions where you will be placed in the nature management function. The other functions are nature protection, wildlife, and field functions.
The position focuses on habitat management of protected nature, with a particular emphasis on forest habitats and species typical of Jämtland County. The role involves prioritizing, planning, and following up on management and restoration measures based on management plans for nature reserves and conservation plans for Natura 2000 areas, in collaboration with colleagues. You need to be able to make sound ecological assessments in all work tasks, from prioritizing between objects and measures to leading the work during management and restoration.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who has:
- a biological university degree with a focus on conservation or another education that we can assess as equivalent,
- good knowledge of legislation concerning conservation in protected areas,
- a valid driver's license (B).
It is advantageous if you also have:
- experience in habitat management
- documented competence regarding Natura 2000 species and habitats, primarily in boreal coniferous forest and calcareous coniferous forest, but also grasslands, rich fens, wetlands, and alpine environments.
- experience in conservation burning
- experience in field leadership
- experience in working alone in the field
Your ability to build relationships and communicate effectively in both speech and writing will be crucial for success in this role. As a person, you have the ability to work independently while also collaborating with colleagues and building relationships with external stakeholders and landowners. We are looking for someone who has a holistic view of conservation and wants to contribute to the long-term and sustainable management of our habitats!
Other related tasks within the unit may also be relevant as part of the position.
Conditions
Since travel is required for the position, a valid driver's license (B) is a requirement.
A six-month probationary period applies for permanent positions.
We offer you a meaningful job with varied tasks. You will make a difference for our county and community. The County Administrative Board is a broad authority, which means you will constantly have the opportunity to develop and learn new things. This applies across several policy areas.
As an employer, we focus on good employment conditions, active work environment efforts, and health-promoting wellness activities. We value collaboration with our trade union partners and can offer remote work.
In the case of a permanent position at the County Administrative Board, you will be placed in a crisis position at the authority. Depending on the position, it may involve service in a crisis staff and security classification. We usually start with a probationary period for permanent positions.
