The Animal and Environmental Unit is one of the seven units of the County Administrative Board that works with permits, supervision, and control in the areas of infection control, health, food, feed, and animal welfare. We also work with supervision, assessment, and guidance within the Environmental Code, water activities, water protection, dam safety, environmentally hazardous activities, fish farming, wind power, hydropower, contaminated areas, etc. Our employees include environmental protection officers, county veterinarians, and animal welfare officers. Together, the unit has a broad competence and knowledge that we are happy to share.

Description

We are now looking for a substitute for the animal welfare function.

As an animal welfare officer, you will handle issues within the function's area of responsibility.

As an Animal Welfare Officer, you will play a central role in ensuring the well-being and protection of animals. You will handle cases related to animal husbandry and animal welfare, as well as conduct inspections and investigate complaints. With your strong communication skills, knowledge of animals, and familiarity with current legislation, you will contribute to creating conditions for good animal husbandry.

Your tasks will include:

  • Investigating animal welfare cases and complaints
  • Conducting inspections and observations
  • Providing advice and guidance to animal keepers and the public
  • Working together with other authorities and organizations to promote animal welfare.

Depending on the applicant's competence profile and internal redistribution of tasks, other duties may be included in the work.

Qualifications:

To be a successful Animal Welfare Officer, we see that you have a range of important qualifications that prepare you well for this central role.

You have completed a scientific higher education in the field of animal welfare, for example: animal welfare inspector, preferably with additional training in food and feed, agronomist with a focus on animal production and food or animal agronomist, agricultural engineer with a focus on animal welfare. Other education that the employer considers equivalent may also be accepted.

Other desirable competencies:

Experience in regulatory activities and control of farm animals is highly meritorious. Experience as an inspector in relevant areas is also an advantage. Various types of IT support are used in the work, so computer skills are a plus. Since the work involves travel, a B driver's license is required.

The position requires that you can independently plan and carry out the work in an efficient and results-oriented manner. Furthermore, you need to have an easy time structuring your work. We expect you to express yourself easily in speech and writing and to have good collaboration skills, which leads to you easily establishing contacts. We are looking for someone who takes initiative, is independent, and has the ability to work in a structured way to solve problems. Your role will require sensitivity towards others to create positive relationships with both animals and people. Therefore, we are looking for a confident and stable person with good self-awareness and the ability to see the whole picture in challenging situations.
