Research Environment and Workplace

You will be part of the group Organic Photonics and Nano-Optics (http://www.mpjonsson.com) led by Professor Magnus Jonsson. The research directions for the group include dynamic photonics and nano-optics based on organic materials such as electrically conductive polymers.

At the Laboratory for Organic Electronics (LOE) (http://www.liu.se/LOE), we study conductive organic materials and hybrid systems, with applications in printed electronics, bioelectronics, and photonics. LOE is an international and collaborative environment that gathers about 150 researchers and staff.

Relevant equipment that you will have access to includes a recently installed instrument for electron beam lithography. Equipment is available for material development (chemical lab, polymerization equipment, etc.), manufacturing and nano/micro-structuring (evaporation and sputtering, photolithography, electron beam lithography, nanoimprint lithography, etc.), characterization (SEM, AFM, ellipsometry, 4-point probe, cyclic voltammetry, etc.) and various measurements in our optics labs (micro-spectroscopy with electrochemical control, measurements of metasurfaces, integrating sphere, etc.).

Your Responsibilities

You will be part of our ERC project focusing on the development and studies of dynamically tunable optical nanoantennas and metasurfaces, for example based on redox-tunable materials. In brief, the research will involve the fabrication and studies of various nanostructured materials, aiming to contribute both with new fundamental understanding and applications such as dynamic metalenses or holograms. The detailed studies will be designed together with the selected candidate. Examples of research from our group in this direction include:

  • Lin et al. Advanced Materials 2025, e20674, early view
  • Lin et al. Nature Communications 2025, 16, 4484
  • Duan et al. Advanced Materials 2025, 37, 16, 2417024
  • Duan et al. Advanced Materials 2023, 35, 51, 2303949
  • Karki et al. Communications Materials 2022, 3, 48
  • Karki et al. Advanced Materials 2022, 34, 13, 2107172
  • Kang et al. Advanced Science 2022, 9, 23, 2201907
  • Chen et al. Nature Nanotechnology 2020, 15, 35-40

The experimental work may involve the fabrication of materials, (nano) fabrication of samples and systems, and characterization and measurements of these systems. The experimental work is often complemented by optical simulations.

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will primarily conduct research. Teaching may also be included in the responsibilities, but to a maximum of one-fifth of the working time.

Your Qualifications

To be eligible for a postdoctoral position, you must have obtained a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree. Your degree should be obtained no later than at the time the employment decision is made. We welcome applications from candidates with a degree in physics, materials science, or another relevant subject.

We are looking for someone with a strong interest in, and preferably experience with, design, fabrication, and characterization of optical (phase gradient) metasurfaces and/or electrochemically tunable materials. Desirable experiences include nanofabrication (for example, electron beam lithography), relevant characterization methods and measurement techniques, electrochemical redox control, and optical modeling.

We also value qualifications such as communication and collaboration skills, analytical ability, motivation, and responsibility. Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities and suitability. The working language is English, and you are expected to master it well in both written and spoken forms.

About the Position

The position is a fixed-term employment for two years with the possibility of extension for a total employment period of no more than three years. The postdoctoral position is full-time.

Start date by agreement.

Salary and Benefits

The university applies individual salary setting. The usual starting salary for our postdoctoral researchers is approximately 41,000-42,000 SEK/month.

Application

You apply for this position by clicking the “Apply” button below. Your application should be submitted to Linköping University no later than February 25, 2026. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.

The application (in English) should include:

  • Cover letter (max 2 pages, in English): Describe what makes you interested in the specific position and how you can contribute to our research and group.
  • CV: Your CV can be formatted according to your own design. It should include information about education (degrees with subject, institution, year, and preferably overall average grade), publications (with all information including full author list and preferably a link to the publication), other merits that you find relevant (skills, awards, etc.), and contact details for three referees including a brief description of how they know you.
  • Course transcripts with grades from undergraduate education

We welcome applicants with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives, as this enriches and develops our operations. It is self-evident for us to uphold everyone's equal value, rights, and opportunities. Read about our work with Equal Conditions.

Welcome with your application!
