Your Responsibilities

As an ecologist, you will be offered a varied job where you, together with your colleagues, work to develop the municipality's green environments and natural areas. We work both at a strategic level with plans and programs and at a more detailed level in various projects and with practical nature conservation.

The position entails varied tasks in different parts of the administration's community building process. The group supports various departments within the administration in ecology and nature conservation issues - both in overarching urban development projects, detailed plans, and municipal investments in public spaces in natural areas. The group is also responsible for the municipality's nature reserves, management of small ponds and wetlands, meadows, sand and lime environments, municipal responsibility species, species and habitat inventories, etc. The work also includes actions outside municipal land in collaboration with private landowners.

As an ecologist, you will prepare investigations, various types of documentation, and act as a client or client support during the procurement of consulting services. The work is conducted both in groups and independently with projects of varying sizes, scales, and content. The position is planned to have a clear focus on nature conservation in agricultural landscape environments but will also include a significant part related to inventories and species work, local environmental monitoring, referral handling, and issues related to the Planning and Building Act and permit processes.

Your Workplace

The Urban Environment Department maintains and develops attractive, functional, and accessible streets, squares, parks, and natural environments within Linköping Municipality.

The department works on behalf of the Community Building Committee and consists of three units: Urban Environment Development, Operations and Maintenance, and Support. Urban Environment Development consists of approximately 20 employees and works within three areas of activity: landscape, nature, and infrastructure. We sit in newly built premises in Ebbepark and work activity-based, where there are good opportunities for both individual work and creative meetings. There is an opportunity to work 1-2 days remotely by agreement with the employer. We work in a creative environment with a high level of ambition, and here you will have a good opportunity for development, education, and participation in interesting projects.

In the landscape and nature group, in addition to experienced ecologists, forest managers, and nature conservationists, there are also landscape architects. Our workgroup is characterized by great commitment, community, and drive.

Due to our broad nature conservation mandate, many large planning projects, and responsibilities related to, among other things, water directives and restoration laws, we want to strengthen the group with an additional ecologist with a few years of experience in relevant areas for the position.

Who You Are

We are looking for someone who is trained as an ecologist through university or college education or has other education that we assess to be equivalent. We prefer that you have a few years of experience in practical nature conservation work. If you have experience in project processes and/or project management related to nature conservation and ecology, it is meritorious. Likewise, if you have experience with municipal assignments.

We want you to have good knowledge of GIS and handling of inventory data. Furthermore, you have good knowledge of the Swedish language in speech and writing, as the work involves formulating assignment descriptions and orders, writing, compiling, or reviewing reports.

To succeed in the role of municipal ecologist, you need to understand your role and consider the best interests of the entire organization in your actions and decisions. You take responsibility for your tasks and drive your processes forward. You are structured and plan and prioritize your work effectively, setting and adhering to deadlines. You work well with others, listen, and communicate constructively, creating participation and consensus around the organization.
