We are now looking for forensic laboratory technicians who want to work during the summer at the technical section of NFC in Linköping within the groups of weapons, fingerprint development, and case support. The position and tasks may be distributed among the groups.

National Forensic Centre
The National Forensic Centre is a department within the Police Authority. In close collaboration with the investigative operations, the department leads, develops, and performs forensic work for successful crime fighting. The department is responsible for the entire forensic process within the police - from crime scene investigations, laboratory operations, and IT forensics to forensic expert opinions in criminal cases. The assignment also includes acting as expert support and conducting training, strategic research, and development to future-proof the police's forensic capabilities.
NFC - Technical Section
The technical section at the National Forensic Centre works to develop, identify, and compare traces, materials, and substances of various kinds. This includes fingerprints, shoe prints, weapons, ammunition, and burglary tools.
The weapons group handles cases involving weapon examinations, weapon trace examinations, ammunition examinations, shooting distance examinations, and weapon destruction. As a laboratory technician in the weapons group, initial work in several of these examinations may be included in the tasks.
The fingerprint development group handles cases concerning fingerprints.
The case support group coordinates, unpacks, and secures cases that are then distributed to the respective examination instance/group.
JOB TASKS
The tasks for fingerprint development include, among other things:
- Developing fingerprints on various materials from crime scenes. Development is done using chemical and physical methods.
- Laboratory tasks such as registration and sample preparation as well as mixing and controlling various development solutions.
The tasks for the weapons group include, among other things:
- Digitizing materials, bullets, and casings at the IBIS reading station (internal training is required).
- Administrative tasks such as archiving materials and results.
- Administrative tasks in weapon destruction, checking incoming materials.
The tasks for case support include, among other things:
- Assisting with unpacking, emptying incoming examination materials.
- Administrative tasks such as describing examination materials according to process.
QUALIFICATIONS
Requirements
This is an opportunity for you who:
- At the time of employment has completed or ongoing post-secondary education with a main focus on e.g. chemistry, technology, molecular biology, biomedical analyst, or equivalent experience that the authority deems relevant for the position.
- Has very good knowledge of the Swedish language, both spoken and written.
- Has normal color, number, and letter vision.
Desirable knowledge
We see it as desirable if you also have experience in:
- forensic laboratory work
- ISO-certified quality work
- detailed examination
- training and/or experience in forensic methods
Personal qualities
We are looking for someone who enjoys a varied job that also includes a high degree of routine work. The tasks require good collaboration skills, responsibility, and accuracy. In addition, you are goal-oriented and production-oriented, while being able to adapt to different tempos and are flexible to solve the group's tasks. We will place great emphasis on personal qualities.
