What does a workday look like – if it happens to be in Nairobi?

As a boarding house supervisor and school nurse, you are a central part of the students' daily lives – not just during school hours, but also during leisure time and at the boarding house. You contribute to a safe and structured environment where students are seen, can grow, and dare to take space – at the boarding house and in life around the school.

As a school nurse and boarding house supervisor, the medical student health responsibility is combined with a clear adult responsibility at the boarding house. You are a present and secure adult during evenings and weekends, responsible for the students' well-being and contribute to making leisure time meaningful, active, and structured. The role includes both planned activities and everyday conversations and support when needed.

Life and work at the boarding house are characterized by clear structures, close relationships, and a daily life where safety and responsibility go hand in hand. Students face familiar demands and expectations from the Swedish school, while their daily lives take place in one of Africa's most dynamic cities. Through excursions, meetings, and everyday experiences, perspectives are created in the meeting between Swedish culture and the place we are in. Daily life thus becomes a vibrant combination of the familiar and the unexpected. In your role, you use your competence, commitment, and experience to create safety, structure, and meaningful contexts for students who live and study far from home – at the boarding house and in life around them.

Svenska Skolan in Nairobi (SSN) is a Swedish international school for children from preschool to high school. The school has been run by a parent association since 1968, is non-profit, and has about 170 students. Instruction is conducted in Swedish according to Swedish governing documents, but daily life is shaped by the place we are in – in teaching, relationships, and life around the school.

In high school, we offer three college preparatory programs – economics, natural sciences, and social sciences – as well as a guest student program where about 95 Swedish students can combine their high school studies with living in the boarding house or with host families. About the positions for the school year 2026/2027

We are looking for a school nurse in combination with the role of boarding house supervisor.

Requirements for the position:

● Specialist-trained nurse

● At least five years of professional experience after graduation

Meritorious for the position:

● Previous employment abroad, specifically in Kenya and East Africa or at another Swedish international school/boarding school.

● Good knowledge of English both spoken and written

● Good computer skills and knowledge of the Office suite and Google platform

We are looking for someone who is:

● Specialist-trained nurse with a student focus – experienced in working with children and young people and with the student at the center, always focusing on learning, safety, development, and well-being

● A secure adult presence – stable, professional, and accessible in the students' daily lives, both during school days and leisure time

● Good relationships and collaboration – builds trust and works closely with students, colleagues, and guardians

● Responsible and professional – acts as a role model, takes initiative, and stands secure in their assignment

● Flexible and solution-focused – has good planning skills, can handle both the everyday and the unexpected, and is comfortable with varying and unusual working hours

Employment conditions
